I'm not sure, but I think I might've read somewhere that the Miata aftermarket LSD's will fit into a first gen RX-7, maybe. I honestly don't know and someone else might be able to say I'm wrong.

hooray I was right!

Its actually cheaper to purchase a Kaaz LSD in 1.5 or 2 way for $600 (lowest price I've found) and get it shipped from Japan than purchase it from an American outlet and still have it shipped from Japan.

Nuts to that. Miata Torsen for $250 AND you get a better gearset. You can't beat that with a stick.

i want to keep the gear set the same cause i do a lot of highway driving and need the fuel economy for the drive to the drift events...all i want is the LSD...if anything i want to have 5th gear very long so that when im cruising at 80mph my revs will be well below 3k not like now where its more like close to 4k..

Well from talking to a few guys over the phone today the Miata set might be better than the FC because the Miata weighs about the same as our cars. The FC is heavier, obviously.

GSL is 3.909 which would marginally lower your RPM at 80 mph and get you a littler better gas mileage. SE is 4.1 by the way.

Cool Miata Kaaz/Moser axles

Per conversation with Driftalanta
"Dont know the part number. I called Newport exotic cars, talked to the guy. All i knew was 1.8L miata diff fit. So i bought the 1.5. Its not torsen its clutch type. If you call the guy he set you up w/ the correct diff. If you can wait till monday . I will look in my tool box at work, and see if the part number is one the manual.
I would also suggest the moser axles, I have bent probably 4 sets of stock ones. The moser are only 350 shipped. I have a invoice number you have them copy the order. All you need to have them do is make them 12mm shorter my order. I went longer so i could custom tailer the length w/ the diff out to get as much spline in the kaaz.
part number on manual
DBZ1810"
Moser axles are GSL-SE spec to match the Miata Kaaz splines.
This was the info I got from Adam on his Kaaz install.

One thing to know is that the Miata Torsen is going to be break happy at anything over 250whp. I know miata guys who will not run them with sticky tires and anything close to 200whp. Torsen diffs are not as strong as LSD's. So for clarification I can sawp a FC LSD with my gears into my 84 housing and the axles will pop right in??

I'm not running turbo. I doubt I'll be pushing 250 HP. Plus I'm not a drag racer.

so if im pushing over 250hp i need some custom work done right? i dont want to go too extreme cause then i would go for a ford 8.8 and thats not very drift friendly

EDIT: i like to drift and drag...so i need a setup that will keep these things and still be driveable!

Torsen LSD = great road racing diff, smooth N/A power delivery is what it likes

Stock type 4 pinion clutch LSD = great drag race, high torque launching diff....I.E turbo

The nature of the stock clutch LSD makes it grip harder, the more HP you pump into it.Even when worn out or lacking preload, they will hook up when the power kicks in,its just how they work. They cab be treacherous too due to lockup under decel and chatter when driving normally. But they are far more robust than the complex Torsen type LSD.

No such thing as an 83 SE....84-85 only.
All the 84-85 cars had bigger axles,so no its not a direct swap. You can do it,but youll have to rebuild the diff with 84-85 side gears, hardly worth it.

If you are talking about an 83 LE,then yes you can swap the 82 GSL pumpkin right in.Youll need to run the 82 driveshaft or change the flange to match the 83's driveline.
