In my opinion they are functionally invisible, the slats are horizontal so instead the diminished visibility of a solid tint they look like pinstripes in the rear view mirror.

On the right car they look good. I believe having black louvers, with a black car, with black tinted windows looks bad ***, but with any other color, it's gay.

On the show car circuit that would be called a 'period correct' addition. I liked them when I was in high school when that gen was new... If you really want to go all the way with the old school look get some raised white letter tires. I prefer the clean look of a dark tinted window now, but hey, it would be boring if we all built the same thing.

Not a major fan myself. I think the big problem is the way the tail end of the car slopes off, it just doesn't look right to me.
I do agree with the practicality of them though.

I've got a set on the '83 and a spare set gathering dust in the garage....one thing that might make me ditch the louvers will be when the stereo finally gets done and I have decent bass.....with a tube back there and 12" subs to test an amp, those freakin' louvers rattle like nobody's business....at least three times as irritating as any late model Caddy with bump in the trunk and a loose trunk lid to match....really....

One thing to note: They are certainly heavier than a tint job
They hinder your visibility less, though.
Plastic ones are lighter, and painted a bit easier. They also sell louvers for the quarter windows.
Painted to match body = sexy

i like louvers, but i probably won't get any for my car. however, it doesn't matter others like. it's your car.

I think your louvers look great. Nice sharp look with the freshly painted louvres and the great paint job on the car. I had a set on my first Rx7 (an 83, I think it was). I thought they looked great, but the car also had a spoiler. I'd love to get a set for my new Rx, but I don't want to get them without the spoiler. It's just the look that I'm used to so now I can't imagine having one and not the other.
Mar3, would you consider selling your spare set? If I find a spoler for my new '82 I am going to want a set of louvres to go with it.

One thing I have to say, since taking mine off the "people aquarium" effect has gone through the roof. They added a lot to the privacy aspect of the car.

Louver slideshow, with and without
Heres a series I just shot for this. I like "the look" MUCH better with the louvers. They go on or off in less than a minute. At least my car is black with tinted windows so it doesn't look gay.
I don't know why my kid looked grumpy in the other pic but he knows he's got a cool car. One day at drivers ed. a group of his buddys were talking about what kind of ride they were going to have and when he told them "A Mazda RX-7" they all started swearing and calling out "You, lucky, bastard!"
What do you guys think, like me with or like some without?
