Loud Front End Noise
Hi all
There is a "woo woo" kind of noise from the front end of my 83 GSL. It makes itself known when I am just starting to go, then stops completely after about 5 mph.
When I put my foot on the brake, the noise also stops.
I jacked the car up and spun the tire and I'm not getting any bad noises. Couldn't get it to make the noise.
At this point I'm thinking I need new wheel bearings and races.
Or new rotors and pads.
(But, I don't feel anything in the pedal, so I dunno)
However the noise does stop when I put my foot on the pedal
What do you guys think it is?
Thanx
-Lucas
(side note, dunno if it matters.
Stock shocks with 450lb GC sleeves. not my doing. PO's doing
new inner/outer tie rods)

Thats the brakes, inspect the font pads. These cars have the most irritating wear indicators possible. I dealt with one for about a week before I could change them. Was hell.

Wear indicators is generally a metal tab on the brake pads, when the brake pads get to low the tab rubs on the brake rotors to make a loud sound indicating your pads are low. Easy thing to do is Jack it up take the tire off and see how low your pads are, change them anyways just for good measure, if there's grooves or uneven surfaces on the rotors change them as well, and spray some brake quiet on the rotors if you think that may help if its not the pads. Also your rotor could be warped and that sound is coming from the pad intermettinly touching the rotor as it turns, you may not hear it over 5 MPH because of engine and road noises. Have some outside the car walk along side the wheel listening as you drive slowly. If there's scrapping sound constantly more than likely the pads are low, only intermittently or once every rotation then the rotor is probably warped

Maybe I didn't clarify, the warning tabs are designed to produce a sound indicating the pads are low as it rubs on the rotor. A scratching sound is your pads have no meat left and your metal on metal, a new rotors will be need. I understand your answer has been reached.
