Loud Exauhst story

Had an interesting experience today with how loud my car is. All the time I turn heads because all I am running is a rotory engineering header w/ a collector and a 2.5" pipe back to a el cheapo Bomz muffler. It's very loud, ppl in the boston tunnels hate me when I have to go down there I think but have never been pulled over for it. Well today I am driving around my college campus to park and get to class and I drive by the Dean of the college, Father Augustine and I got the most dirty look, I mean it down right scared me. It was weird tho because I get thumbs up from the other monks here, but today it was like no one could stand a bit of noise in the morning after there CEO breakfast today. What is worse is that I need to see him about progress and all for graduation.

Anyone else ever gotten looks like this from people above you? Oh, and to make it worse w/ temps dropping she likes to pop alot and shoot fireballs while I coast.

I drive past a specialty exhaust shop everyday on my way to work. They do a lot of ricer exhaust work, and mostly it sounds pretty nice. I checked the place out when I had them do my '71 lemans, and there was a S2000 and a couple other cars of the like. One day I came around the turn by their shop and floored it in 2nd, all the way to the redline and then some, and I look over and several of the mechanics are staring at me with their mouths hanging open. Almost everyday they watch me go by, sometimes giving me a thumbs-up or similar.

i must be getting old, loud is no longer 'cool' IMO. its just annoying, specially with a gutted interior.

my exhaust is still pretty damn loud with header, resonator and magnaflow straight through. im thinking of adding another resonator so i can listen to my carb instead

that may not work paradox!!! I have custom header to 4" round by 12 inch magnaflow to another 4X8X12" magnaflow straight through, and she is still way loud. Only quiet really at idle and cruising. She is probably not as loud as the mustang, but I still wear earplugs every where I go. She is one pissed off sewing machine.
I get lots of looks, and mostly good ones from people, but I think its mostly from people who had spitfires when they were younger. I bet they don't remember there's being as fast or shooting 3 foot flames out the back though!!

Go by cops at 3000 rpms and dont even look at me . 1670$ Of exhaust and pipe and thats not with the headers. Look it up at www.vibrant.com its the assasins 3fx pipes in competition pipes section !!

Has anyone tried putting any insulation under the carpet?

I'm replacing my carpet "soon". (Ie as soon as the damn contractor fill the hole in the road in front of my garage. It's been nearly 3 weeks already.) Um, yeah, anyway.

I'm wondering if anyone can suggest some material. Personally I normally don't mind it too much but when I have a passenger I realize it's hard to hear them.

No video can capture the ear piercing sound of an unmuffled rotary

On occasion I enjoy pulling off the muffler and doing a run around the block to rattle peoples ears. I can't take the presilencer off, so it's not as brutal as it could be, but it's loud enough to attract cops from all over in a matter of minutes

I keep trying to buy a q-tech exhaust cutout so I can run straight pipes out the side but run the main pipes on the street (usually), but there's always some broken part that needs to be fixed instead

I agree with that -- no video or even recording can capture the sound of a rotary... you would need insane speakers to reproduce it on...

In a few weeks im gonna be recording a clip of my car with a direct 2.5" dump off headers - we'll see how that goes Also will get video - gonna be smoking like a **** - cleanin out the engine with ATF.

I been thinking about going round the block with a dump exhaust but i afraid cops will do me straight away hehe... at least id be reported by all the locals heh. im interested in one of those butterflies in the exhaust too. switch and dump

I used to run a 12A bridgeport with 2.5" pipes collecting before the axle, then into a 3" pipe to a custom muffler. I got a fine for "excessive noise in a public place" when I was idling at a set of lights.

Used to set off shop alarms by backing up to the front window and revving it to 5000rpm.

One winter night I dropped my friend off at his house. He lived on the outskirts of town, near the open road. I told him to call me on my cell when he couldn't hear me anymore. He rang me when I was about 8 miles away, he could hear me changing gears from there.

i did that i ran open head and went down a main road and said tell me when u cant hear me anymore over some walkie talkies....i left my house....went down about 4 miles and then went home and asked why he never talked to me on the radio and he said.......i could hear you like you were still sitting in the driveway...then finishes it off by saying i even went inside to go get a drink and p and i could still hear you....

when i drove with open heads i wasnt able to even go to redline because the vibration was so bad i couldnt see unless i shifted.

When I first got my 87 SE, one of the muffers was rusted away from the Y-pipe. I figured I would hollow out the cats since I had to mess with exhaust, and just pulled it entirely off. So one evening around midnight, I took her out with just an open manifold and tore down the highway...man it was loud as hell, and I know it woke up a few neighbors, thankfully that was before we had a local police department.

Loud exhausts are ok, but they have to have a good tone. I drove my TII (Full 2.5" into ebay fart cannon) back and forth to Erie, and Penn State Main a few times, and the drone in your ears after a few hours driving sucks ***. I think the best sounding exhaust has to be my buddy jay's TII with a RB 3" DP, in 3" presilencer, then custom Y-piped 3" into fart cannons, loud when you get into it, but not a displeasure to drive.

I got pulled over for a sus. liscence unkowingly, and he told me to turn off my car cause he couldn't hear me. Also people hear me coming from a mile away. And driving by cars with people on there cell phones and sitting beside them makes sudden evil looks.

Funny how I've never once heard people I know with no-muffler pick-ups saying they got tickets for their loud *** pieces of crap, yet I constantly hear of people with imports getting ticketed for exhausts that are much quieter.

The cops in my town suck.
