Heck, I'm on the older edge of that "next generation" (being 19) but I've wanted one since I was a bit younger than him... :-)

About a month before my 17th birthday is when I became interested in the 7. I saw one and I knew I had to have one. Now a year later I'm undertaking the biggest challenge yet, partially restoring an 82 GSL. I will have this car forever, even if it doesn't run in 20 years and is half rusted out, I will still have it. Nothing will make me sell my 7.

i have to agree with you 85. i will never sell my 7. sure, i will buy other cars but only so i can keep miles off my 7. my girlfriend asked me when will i stop spending money on my car. i told her the project will never be done. it is in great condition now, but you can always do something to make it look better or have more horse power. i love these cars. i hope we can keep them around for a long time.

Yes, I too will never sell either of mine. I guess i'm part of the next generation as well being 19, not really sure what age group exactly makes it up, but whatever.

I got mine 2 weeks after I turned 15 when looking for any sport style car, I was initially going to get a 89 Prelude SI. Thank God i got a rear wheel drive, I've been to 4 autocrosses and the last one this guy let me run his 2003 BMW 330ci three times! I was .7 seconds slower than his fastest time of his 12 runs. Im turning 16 next month (but no license until July 9) and the seven's gotta take down a 1996 Honda Accord with an Odyssey engine next fall. Most young people wanna drag race but i love the corners most, I still want to get my car down to about 15 second quarter mile by the end of this summer.
Whats the coolest car you guys driven, or better yet raced, when your only 15?
dang my post was long, oh well

Even then, I'm sure there will be some of us insane enough to build one from scratch.. Custom body and everything.

I love it. Another person from my town just got into rx7s. He's buying my GS, so now I can finally get the GSL-SE running.

I had the 7 catch my eye when I was about 15. I even had the VB catalog next to my JC whitney next to my bed. anyways... that brought back memories of the rolls royce VW bug kits that whitney sold. even at 15 I thought they were dumb. but the lines of the 7 are gorgeous. unlike the 300Z that looked like it was a pine wood derby racer from all the angles and edges cut into it.

My favorite cars back then were the MG, Rx-7 and ranger truck. I went with the 7 for practiacality reasons. was I wrong!

Thumbs up

I would love to see the sevens become more sought after by younger people and become more popular ... i even contributed to this (Im only 16) and now own a 85 GSL-SE. although you have to admit the more popular they become, the less special and unique i would feel when someone who has no idea what an older rx-7 even looks like gets burnt by a little first gen.

I've turned my friend's 11 year old into a rotorhead wannabe. I hear that's all he talks about now, reads everything he can find on them, spots them a mile away, etc. Ahh... the joys of breaking them young! I'd almost guarantee that kid'll have one by the time he turns 16!

i was 16 when i got my rx-7. i am 22 now and i still love it. my girlfriend says she will like it more when i get it painted. it is silver but one of the fenders is black. someone backed into me and drove off while i was at a drag strip. i can't wait to get it looking right. i also love the attention you get with the rex. everyone is used to civics and stuff like that. the rex is definately unique.
