Looking for Suggestions on Colour.
Just got my 81 Rx7 running again after a month of problems cropping up. I was looking it over and was fairly happy with the interior while being kinda embarrassed of its current paint job. Its the factory light blue colour. However someone tried to do a silver clear coat or something because the paint just looks like hell and i cant seem to fix it no matter how hard I try. I was doing some looking around and found you can get a really decent paint job using rustoleum paint (aerosol or roller). However I can not think of a color that looks really good on it. Just want some feedback. What colour would you want yours? what looks good on this car?

white and black look good. mine is that same blue with black on the outside...
silver is nice too.
i actually like the blue though, it would be really tempting to just keep the same color

I've never seen a Spray Can paint job the looked like anything other than... a spray can paint job.
Spend the bucks to get a professional paint job or rent proper paint spraying equipment.

I agree about the spray can method looking like a spray can. I bet after everything is said and done, you'll spend over $100 with rattle cans.
Macco, Auto Body Painting And Repair Is Our Specialty | Maaco, has an offer right now to paint a car for $200. I'm not promoting Macco as a great paint job, but if you do the prep work yourself you can can a decent paint job. Back in the 1981 I had them paint a 1975 Monte Carlo with one of their "President" paint jobs and it came out really nice.

I called macco about a year ago and they gave me a price of 1500 to do the paint job. I had never heard of such a price. And i even clarified and he said yes one thousand five hundred. Maybe ill look into some eastwood paint to do it myself or if i can find that 200$ deal, ill jump on that right away.

I would probably do either a midnight blue or a dark charcoal like the S2000 used to come in. Before I would use a spray can I would look into this process https://www.dipyourcar.com/ Though I have never seen a "dipped" car it does not look that hard and seems to be very forgiving. If you don't like it just peal it off. And with all the pigments you can get now you can try it on your car before paying for a good paint job.

except for the spots i paid them too sand they did NO prep at all, they will paint over bird poop, tree sap, rust, etc. i was ok with this, i took all the trim off and washed the car and did some prep work etc. they also will get overspray everywhere, if you don't want them too, i wanted them to, so they missed a couple of spots...
its not the best paint job in the world, but for the money its actually really good, i'm really happy.
the $1500 paint job is where they wash the car and pretend to sand it before they spray. the code word seems to be "race car"

I saw that plasti dip in a short video the other day but didnt think much of it (thought it would be super expensive or hard to find) from a couple minutes of searching neither is the case. Its about 9 bucks for an 11 oz can on amazon. Im going to look into that because it might be exactly what im looking for.

I'm teetering between black and white right now. Car is black but I'm doing some light bodywork myself which has me leaning toward white for the repaint. Black shows flaws the most. I use a single stage (2-part) polyurethane over 2k primer and it works great, just use good PPE. $200 in materials plus the tools that you can use forever once you buy them....I say DIY!!

I would do more research on it. Their kit for a small car includes 2 gallons of product so you probably would not want to do it with just spray cans. https://www.dipyourcar.com/Pro-Car-Kits-cat/

Ya i saw that kit and it looked quite enticing, Have also been speaking to my father about his car (260 z Car) because he also wants to paint his. However he is dead set on using lacquer, No matter what i say he just responds with lacquer. I have yet to hear anyone suggest it as a car paint and am wondering what you guys think? is he just old and dead set in his ways? (wouldn't surprise me).
its not as durable as the other paints, but you can polish it to a really high shine, and if theres a mistake/problem, you can just spray another couple of coats on and buff it out.
the key with the guitar is that lacquer feels nice to the touch too
