Question looking for some opinions

i am getting ready to do my headers on my 84 gsl-se 13b and i saw a 65 corvet the other day with the side mounted lake pipes. and i was now contiplanting doing that to my 7. it seems like it would look so awsome. has anyone ever done this? and what do you guys think? thanks for your time.

What do I think?

Um, no.

First off, the Corvette has an actual exhaust on each side. Your car doesn't. It's only on the passenger side. Which means the exhaust on the drivers side would either be non-functional (RICE!!) or you'd have to bend the exhaust down, under the transmission, etc, etc, to get half out the drivers side. Sounds like a giant cluster **** to me.

Hate to break it to you, but your car is not a Corvette, and trying to run pipes like that is merely a pathetic attempt to make it look like one.

You asked for opinions, there ya go.

yea i know it is not a corvet but i figured since the headers comeing off are 2 sepperate pipes that you mite be able to take one pipe to one side and the other to the other. butt thanks for the opinion

you might be able to do it out of the one side i would have to agrea that both sides unless maybe you got a twin turbo engines you might be able to but with your first gen ( i take it from being in this forum) that it would be sorda ghetto but you could do it. anything CAN be done but the question is 1. how well 2. will it be effictive 3. will it look like you just got out of a demoltion derby when you are done.

I'll have my side exit exhaust on by the end of the week. Not corvette style, more nascar style side pipe.

a twin turbo exhaust comes out in 1 pipe and a 1st gen header is 2 pipes. y would a twin turbo be any easier and also y would u want the extra weight. if i had a fc with crappy duel exhaust i would trash it first thing. i think u guys should buy some cool wings from the honda forum.

are you going to have the headers just shoot right out the side in front of the rear wheel. i thought of doing that before but i cant on mine cuz its street use. if it was a car for ****** around i would prob do that headers to 2 pipes shoot it right out in front of the passenger side rear wheel. u could burn peoples legs on sidewalks with the flames. also would be so loud ever start your car up open header. lol hurts the ears.

I don't see problem with having just ONE side pipe exhaust - FORM/FIT/FUNCTION would be the key. If one will do it, skip the idea of putting one on the other side just to make it look symetrical.
Burt with that short run, it would be rather loud, unless the sidepipe has baffles, like many motorcycle exhaust sytems. You do not see big bulbous mufflers on bikes and they are muffled pretty good with just a baffled pipe.

This is not a new idea, if comes up every so often. It will be very loud, you will lose any tube length tuning you had before and some tracks will toss your *** due to noise regulations, did I mention it's loud.

My exhaust scrapes going in and out of the driveway and some speed bumps as it is now. Side exit under the rocker, it would crush.

Have you ever heard a rotary without a muffler or presilencer? If you did you couldn't hear anything else for a long time.

I'd like to see some pics of that and hear a nice sound clip. What all is the exhaust comprised of?

I've heard about 25-30 12As with straight pipe off the header and it's not that loud. Sounds like a swarm of angry bees though LOL

I've sat in my garage with a big street port 12A with an open "header" and it practically deafened me.....and I used to get front row tickets to concerts like KISS, AC/DC and JP back when they were touring the first time around. I can only imagine how deaf you must be...

Save sidepipes for Cobras and the like, they are more of a 60's/70's thing IMO

The only way/reason I would do a side exit is at the drag strip, if I could line up in the left lane all of the time. Between the deafening noise and nice 2-3 foot flames, it should confuse the competirion.

Honestly, it would be more fun to run twin pipes straight up through the hood.

I went w/ side exit for lack of clearance over the axle for 3inch plus panhard and tri-link.
Plus it be fun blowing flames in to competitions car during tandem runs
