Looking for rear bumper protector clips on '80 SA

New to the forum so not sure if this is the right place for my search. I need clips to attach the rear bumper protector strip on my '80 SA that I'm restoring. Anyone have suggestions on a source or a replacement part? Thanks

If you find that its a part that's no longer available you can post a want to buy ad in the marketplace section. Maybe someone has an SA they are parting out that has what you need.

If a remember correctly, there's a plate with studs that the rubber strip portion affixes to. There's no clips so to speak. I believe just studs and nuts. The plate with studs is available as a separate part.

I know others on here have fabricated new plates and drilled hole in them for counter sunk bolts to replace and old rusted or bent one. See posts by @DivinDriver as an example.

Dave and Tim are correct. The front and rear mounting plates are known to usually corrode away under the rubber bumper strip. Once in awhile, you may run across a nice metal mounting strip but they are pretty rare. It's a simple part, fabing your own is probably your quickest, easiest option.

Thanks but mine is for the rear bumper and it has clips for mounting. The front one has the plate and studs. Thanks for the response though!

Thanks for the reference to "DivinDriver". If I can't find any, that may be the route I have to take. the plate on mine is very solid with hardly any rust so I'd like to retain it if possible. But keep the ideas coming!!

I certainly appreciate the offer, but my bracket is in very good shape and I am planning to reuse it. Just when the body shop removed the protector, they were not very gentle.........
Thanks!

Not sure I understand you correctly. Both front and rear bumper pads mount to a plate which is bolted to the metal bumper itself. The rubber has a cavity with a lip that fits around the plate. P/N 50-396 on the illustration. Are you wanting P/N 50-389?

Here is a picture of the plate and both sides of the clips that were used to hold it to the bumper. The part of the clip that was pushed through the bumper has been broken off. There were 8 of these holding the protector onto the bumper. No screws or bolts were there. Has not been changed in the past since I am the originial owner.

Looking at the parts fiche, I believe those clips may have only been available with the metal support.

This is getting interesting now. How was the rubber trim attached to those clips? What broke off I guess is what I'm asking?

I just thought the plate tucked inside the rubber and thats what held it in place.

The rubber attached to the metal strip per normal. Looks like the clips attached the whole affair to the bumper. The fiche indicate a Qty of 8 for P/N 8871-50-389. I think that is what he's looking for. I'm sure its just a common plastic clip, possibly used on various models. Might still be in inventory somewhere although even with the P/N, most parts counter guys can't look up the old stuff.

Here's a link to a thread where j9fd3s offers to look up old P/N's for people looking for old parts. You might try and post the P/N in it asking if he can check it out. Or send him a PM.

Banzai, you are exactly right!! Have not been able to find them anywhere. The link with a page from Stanley Fasteners I have already chased. They are not available from them either. The other link has led me to a manufacturer that seems to have bought out Car-Pak fasteners. I've got an e-mail to them to see what they say. Will post any positive reply. Thanks for the suggestions and links. Will continue hunting...............

From the Car-Pak link KC provided, Page 58 shows the clip:

Here's another link you may find them at:

Following to see the results.

I've been missing my rear bumper strip as long as I've had the car. Would be nice if a source other than the occasional SA part out shows up.

Mazdatrix had them on their old site (and supposedly in stock) but they disappeared when they migrated to the new page.

NLA.
As I discovered after a Semi rear-ended my SA.
(not as bad as it sounds. But wanted a new rubber molding. Not going to happen.)
