SA rear bumper trim

Bought a 1980 GS this past summer and I've been only working on getting it running. Now that it's getting close I'm trying to find any missing parts, in this case the black trim piece for the rear bumper. It wasn't on the car when I got it and I'm having a heck of a time trying to find it online. Anyone know where I could find one?

Post up a part wanted ad in the for sale section here. There are 4 pieces of rear bumper trim. The center pad, the 2 end caps and a rubber filler strip btw the body and bumber. Bumper pads do come up from time to time, the ends can be hard to find nice ones. May be more common to see a whole bumper F/S. Search for and inquire on cars that come up to be parted out. You can use parts off 79 or 80 vehicles. For the main bumper pad, you will also need the metal mounting plate underneath. Many times moisture is trapped under the rubber which rusts the mounting plate. If too far gone you will need to fabricate or find another.

Six, actually.

The '80 has:
Two end caps
The horizontal pad across the length of the rear
The horizontal filler strip that goes between the bumper and the body
Two small rubber "push blocks" below the horizontal pad & wrapping around to the bottom, spaced apart near the center of the bumper

78-79 builds did not have the push blocks... though IIRC the 79 Limited may have had them.

Ok, Glenn you are officially on my $%^& list seeing that perfect SA and the RF. Trying to talk the missus into an RF.

Thumbs up

Good catch Glenn. I totally forgot about the 2 additional push blocks on the 1980 only bumper. Must be getting old and senile. The 79 Limited uses a regular 79 bumper. Nice pic BTW and welcome back.

Pardon the bad photo, but it was still dark when I left this morning. I should just be missing the horizontal pad/bar. All the other pieces are present. By the way, amazing example of an SA. Hopefully later on I'll be able to restore my car to it's former glory (plus a little extra of course), the field and sun were pretty hard on it. Last summer I spent half the time fixing it up and the other half finding and removing wasp nests (most often the less favorable way).

Well that piece should be easier to get than the end caps or the nubs. Good luck!

Or:
get a new rear rubber strip:
mazdatrix: $145, maybe cheaper at a dealer if you can wrangle a jobber-price discount/...
Cart Price Check Part:50-380B-8871

Includes vital metal rear insert sleeve that is ALWAYS rusted on used ones....(and is not available as a separate part)
