Right on.

A properly constructed ported enclosure will produce more accurate, louder sound, compared to a sealed enclosure.

I would suggest making a ported enclosure in the taillight area, fiberglass will be needed to make the most of the space.

John64 - I don't have any build pics, but I will take some pics of the project at the current stage.

good luck building a ported box in the taillight area, besides. Sealed will, and does in my case sound better.
Porting helps those with less power achive higher SPL's
With just a pair of 8's even a moddest amp can get them rockin.
for all the work figuring out internal volumes port lengths and such you'd be far better ahead to just make them sealed.
I'm still trying to find someone to make copies locally as I don't have the space to make them myself.

As Max7 said, ported boxes in the fender area is not an option. The amount of space needed to add a port to an enclosure adds tremendously to the volume. There is very little space as is!

Yeah and I prefer a sealed enclosure as well...nice tight bumps instead of thundering booms....they car is so damn small a pair of 8" subs would sound amazing.

Keep looking Max7!!!!

Right on.

I got an old punch 60 in mono on them, had a soundstream 100 watt before that.
for what it is it pounds really well. For anyone making it to the Rotary Revolution you can hear it in person and see how impressive 2 8's can be in that location

If you make 1 enclosure that flows as far as possible either side you should have enough space for 2 ported 8".

I used to use sealed boxes, but since I learned to make properly ported enclosures, I haven't used a sealed enclosure since. If you tune low (30hz) and build it properly it will always sound better then a sealed enclosure, deeper, punchier and louder.

But if you are that concerned about sound quality, first you must address the horrible imaging produced by the front sound stage in the stock location.

I considered kickpannels, but I decided there wouldn't be sufficient space, so I installed my components in the door pannels, wow what an improvement!

I think $150 a custom fit fiberglass/MDF enclosure for 2 8" woofers, would be fair, depending on final build costs and finish options.

Door panels are an improvement? Your knees are dead in the middle of the sound wave. Your right speaker will be so loud!

I suppose that'd be an improvement over your ankle being in the way

Sadly, I am unwilling to cut my door pannels and am unwilling to lose function of the dead pedal, so the stock locations will remain for me.

I lost my dead pedal in favor of angled 6.5"s down there, love them.

I'd still like to see you fit a ported box in back......

Has anyone tried a Passive Radiator in the sealed spare tirewell space along with a single active sub ? My 10" MTX in that location sounds good and tight. Would the drone help or hurt ?

Phiber Optik or Max7 or anyone else thinking about building these boxes...

Count me in too! I've been watching this thread for months hoping something would come of it. I dont care if i have a single 10" or 12" sub in the storage bin or a pair of 8"'s next to the tail lights.

I just want some decent bass in my car without having a ugly subwoofer box waiting to get stolen.

I'll pay $150-200 in a heart beat for such a beast if its ever made.

So is anyone close to having something i can buy? I'll even be a guinia pig if someone wants...I'm in the california bay area.

Unless you actually have a door panel set-up, don't be so quick to dismiss it....I had some made by Earmark Audio and was able to put in 6.5" JBL's and a 4" Petra's woofer. The soundstage moved to the top of the dash and centered nicely with most vocals.......it was literally a car you could close your eyes and point saying, "The drums are over there and the guitars are over there and Madonna is getting bent right derrrrr...."....

The local car audio shop that the car club I'm in is sponsered by offered to do 2 boxs behind the tail lights.

I have not but i do know a couple of good ideas

those rear comparment are perfect for subs you can wire in your amp and dry clell in one comprtment and if you do it right you could have 2 angle mounted 8's or a single mounted 10 behind the drivers seat if you want any other ideas Pm me you cna do 2 8's in the backor 2 angled 10's angle will help you out

i figured out how to put3 10's in those comparments if anyone wants to know (takes 2 cuts and a little welding experience

How's your soundstage with that setup Max? Do you have most of the sound coming from the front?

No progress on manufacturing the dual 8" enclosures I guess eh?
