I might be willing to build the enclosures.

I'm currently working on a compartment replacement fiberglass/mdf enclosure with room for full recline, sized for 1 15" or 2 12".

I can build single or dual 8" enclosures for the taillight area.

A single side sealed enclosure would cost $25-40CDN in materials, resin being the majority of that.

How much would people be willing to pay?

I have put 8 layers and 4 gallons of resin in the form already, it cost me well over $100 to build at $30 per gallon. I can stand on the form without flex, it is very strong.

I wouldn't be willing to let the form go for that cheap, especially as shipping would be expensive for such an item.

I was going based on the price for two fiberglass enclosures (15's) for the Thunderbird that were going for $120 shipped each, both were just as strong as you say yours are.

Make your price, can you paint them or carpet them before you send them?

How bout the 8" (just one is fine)? I want something that people can't see. it's a small box, so how much would that be around?

Thanks,

Alvin

Phiber, 4 gallons! Wow that is way too much. I have an enclosure for my 15" in tire whell that is 8 layers and only a little over a gallon of resin. Remember you only have to add enought to get the fiberglass wet. If you have too much resign between the fiberglass layers it will not be as strong. You used enough resin to buil 3 enclosure already.

I'm runnin one 8" JL and 4 infinety's two 4" in the front quarters and two 6x9's in the rear fire wall. I mounted the kicker in the spare tire compartment, but that'll come out soon. I'm gonna do what max7 (or whoever it was from the earlier post) did and get another JL and put them in the back.

I work in engineering in a machine shop so I may spend the time a draw up prints and have the front plates cut out on the laser or waterjet. If I do that it'll be able to fit any 7 thats like mine. So I'll see what it costs.

I don't think you understand how large and thick the enclosure is, It's not a spare tire well, it is a compartment replacement (removing the metal frame). The fiberglass is over 3/4" thick in some places. For the best bond you should soak the mat with resin. I usually lightly coat the surface with resin, lay mat, and then saturate untill the mat isn't white. Laying up to 3 layers of mat in 1 go, which is what I refer to as a layer. So in theory the glass could be up to 24 single sheets of mat in some places.
This enclosure will have to withstand some serious pressure, and I don't want the enclosure to flex at all.

The taillight area will always be the best location, in functionality (no loss of storage space/bins), sound quality (sealed, as far back as you can get em), and safety/looks (totally hidden, totally stock looking).

I'll hold out for the Max7 version, and if that never comes along I'll do it myself.

Right on.

Phiber, I understand what your saying. Did you use MDF at all. I made 2 enclosures for the bin area, but the sides are made of MDF.

I usually run 8 layers total, even with the 15", but I see what your saying on 8 layers of 3 sheets each. Really think, but with all the curves of the bins 8 straight layers should be fine. Remember fiberglass is stronger on curves then flat. I would love to see pics, if you did step by step.
You can email me if you don't want to post that many pics.

I'd really like the 8" sub enclosures, fiberclass, mdf, whatever... I'm not looking for major thud, just nice bass fill. I've got 2 Blaupunkt overdrive 6 1/2" rears with external crossovers and 1 1/2" tweeters and a pair of 4 1/2" overdrive fronts... I'm currently running a MTX Blue Thunder 10" sub in a sealed box, but I really hate having the stereo system visible...plus the box rolls around and has smacked me in the head during...spirited driving.
