Looking at a GSL - Front end questions

Hey guys, I have a few questions. I can't remember because my car is about 150 miles away.

Looking at a GSL here and it seems to be very nice in the pictures and the description. Sounds solid, some engine issues which is no big deal.

In the pictures it showed a black front bumper on a blue car. I asked why and if it had been in an accident. This is the reply I recieved:
"The reason it has a different bumper is a friend of was parking in front of it with his pickup, he rubbed the front fender denting it a bit and tearing the vinyl on the bumper. I took the fender off and popped the dent out so it looks okay now, but one of the panel fastener bolts on the bottom of the panel stripped so it needs to be re drilled, and I went and grabbed a new bumper from the wreckers. I should also mention the air dam isn't on it. When I bought in 2006 *is was really beat up, and when I replaced the bumper a lot of the brackets where twisted and I couldn't put them back on. The fins are fine and the colored part of it is kinda wrecked but with new brackets it should fit. I still have the old bumper as well."

So what I get from this is that all the valenxe and air tray and their mounts are messed. Are these easily replaceable(bolt on or welded?)? If I was to go with something like a mariah or bd airdam do I need these attaching points?

My current gsl is the same and ive just been driving with only the bumper and nothing lower but my whole purpose of the new one is for a much better body and interior for a very low price. I wanted to get your guys' thought before I drove 250 miles to check this bad boy out.

Thanks in advance.

If I still had my Se I would look underneath for ya! I don't remember anything being welded though. Best thing to do is look in the FSM.

The parts catalogue shows all sorts of "bumper slides" but it is difficult to see exactly what they are. The FSM is unhelpful. And I can't remember if the brackets that the valence, grill and airtray bolt to, bolt to the chassis or are part of it.

Also I was wondering for those with aftermarket airdams if they use any of those attaching points, or just those of the bumper.

Doc, if you no longer have your SE does that mean you no longer have a first gen kicking around? I've been away from the forum for awhile...

i havean aftermarket front bumper, and what i did was drilled holes in the aftermarket bumper and the edge of the wheel well. afterwards i used rivvets to hold it in place. i know that there are some tabs comming off the bumper going towards the engine, those are not needed to mount it. i hope this helps.

I just sold the SE about a week ago. Now playing with a 2nd gen for a while.

The air dams that I had on cars before only used the bumper to attach to and the lower valance and such was removed.

the bumper, bumper brackets, header panel (thing between the headlights), undertray, and front air damn thing all bolt on.

the mounts are either in the frame, or little sheet metal tabs.

i think the aftermarket air damns depend on which one, the mariah one basically uses the stock bumper brackets, but who knows what some of the others do.

Perfect, thanks guys. I ended up looking at it and buying it for $500. Apart from a few minor engine issues and the tabs for the valence, and a bit of paint cracking here and there, the thing was in mint condition.
