Angry Look at my motor and Im thinking angry thoughts

So recently i swapped motors in my Fb (83 gs) because the other motor needed to be rebuilt, anyways this new motor has been giving me some problems (mainly leaks from the jerryrigging done by the other owner). Well a big problem is that the car overheats insanely its gone up to the H mark and it scared the crap outa me, I changed the pump, and the thermostat, but I have not changed the radiator. On a side note, when going to approx. 5000 RPM a cloud of smoke comes out of the exhaust when i let off, what exactly is going on here? And i think my clutch is bad too. talk about a lot of crap , btw we decided that it would be cheaper to just rebuild the other 12a cause it was completely untouched, some help would be greatly appreciated.

Check the fan clutch for overheating issues.

For the smoke, make sure the oil is not over filled. If it isn't, then you probably have bad oil control rings. You can reduce the smoke with Lucas oil stabilizer.

i'm not exactly sure what you're asking here.

what kind of jerry-rigging and leaks have you found?

for the overheating, are you losing antifreeze? it may be the coolant seals or warped housings. the fact that you seemed to have overheated it badly (and it sounds like more than once) i'd bet that you probably cooked the motor now. barring some miracle, all roads seem to lead to building the other engine.

I know that i don't have too much oil because i check it just about everytime so thats good, and the leaks that i found were mainly oil (around the oil cooler tower, and in the pan). I do have some antifreeze leaking out from between the intake manifold and the motor. So I took another look at the oil pan and saw that it was missing a bolt (hole was sealed up with blue gasket maker i think), and when i checked the intake manifold it was also missing a bolt (WTF). BUt to answer diablolical1 yes i am losing antifreeze. And it has been overheated badly (reached H) really once (that is why i come to you guys now cause I was like WTF).

DING DING DING. 12As as far as I know have o-rings that seal the coolant passages between the manifold and the motor, they are an easy replacement and would cause the symptoms of leaking and the smoke on decel i.e. sucking coolant into the manifold.

DarrenTRS has got the right answer im sure. its a common prob following overheating for the oil seals to suffer damage and as a result the engine will "suck" the coolant and the engine will continue to fight its way back to overheating. do some simple checks. check the coolant, take the fill cap off and start the engine and let it warm and see if bubbles start coming out. and let the car set overnight, then start it and see if the exhaust has a sweet smell.

1,, fit the temp sender from the other block to this one, earlier 12a vehicles use a different sender to later ones and a missmatch is well known to produce an engine that sits on the 3/4 mark

2,, oil leaks,, sump, filler neck,, engine smoke ,, all symptoms that the crankcase vent is sealed over and begins to pressurise when hot
when you rev the engine and let off,, you have high vacuum at the inlet ,, and normally oil flung from the rotors to the centre plate to gravity to the sump
is seeing the excessive pressure in the sump and so passes across the oil control rings to the inlet

THIS VERY COMMON SMOKING ISSUE IS OFTEN THE RESULT OF NFI

temporarily take off the filler cap seal and replace the cap loosely,,, drive and see what happens to you smoking at rev issue
if it abates then the issue is in the mods or bodge done to the crank vents
and is also the real reason the sump and filler neck and timing covers spring leaks

well it looks like ima have to wait a while (approx: 2 weeks) for a buddy of mine to come and check on the motor and decide on what to do, although right now im leaning to rebuilding the other motor or getting a TII
