Lock the distibuter tutorial (good job???)

OK, I went through and locked my distibuter. I in no way take responciblity for you working on your car and doing this. Or any damages that may result in the future. I'm planning a blowthru turbo set up and this is one of the things needed to be done in the setup. I think I did a decent job, feedback is good.

1. Your going to have to pull it off the car. If you are going to use the one you have. I bought one off ebay so I can go back to stock if I want to in the future.

2. Take it apart carfully, remove the dashpots good time to clean them too. Remove the guts from the dizzy.

3. Picture "distributer weights".. You will see the yellow squigly lines that I added to the piture those are the springs you will need to remove.

4. Picture "distributer weights".. Notice the parts circled in red A those line up with the parts circled in Picture "Line up holes". B

5. Now put the guts back in the dizzy making sure you line up both those weights with the holes.

6. What you want to do now is turn the main gear at the bottom and hold the silver part (the part that gives the signal to the pickups). so that those weights move in and out. You want to set the weights so they are in the farthest out position See "picture everything lined up" C.

7. When you have it lined up like in the picture carefully remove the guts as not to mess up the position of the weights. use a small Tack weld to hold those weights in place. Double check your work make sure they still line up as in the picture "Everything lined up". If it looks good take out the guts and weld it a little more. If not grind it down and line it up again. BTW it took me three times to line it up. 1st didnt know what the hell I was doing. 2nd missed the line up by an 1/8 of an inch. 3rd did it right.

8. Reassemble

I think mods should archive all the tutorials like this, it would make searching for things much easier. Good job!

There should be a section dedicated for just tutorials.. maybye we can make a poll after the forum is fully switched over to the newer and faster watever it is?

Good work. Of course we still have to make our own decision as to whether or not its worth the time to lock the dizzy on our own cars.

This definately belongs in the FAQ (AKA the archive where good tutorials get saved).

Lock Dizzy

Well, today i was around a couple of cars that have there Distributor clock to crazy time ! I spoke with one fella and he set his timing in to 45 Leading and 38 trailing ! I was blow away with that statement !! Some of the car were stock and other's had SP, BP. I understand and know how to lock the ignition and it's purpose in the low end to upper rpm range. How do you select a timing that's comfortable for the engine ? I'm really stuck on stupid with this one ! Then i keep listening and after picking the time of choice you need to rev the engine past 4k inorder to set the engine correctly. So, i was kind of watching someone else mess with another guys engine they pulled the front pully changed the timimg marks reinstalled the pully and then started to put the engine in time with a timing light. So, by this time 20 min or so has past and i had to move around so i missed the most important part of the project and that's watching them put the engine in time with the engine running. So my question is does the car need to be at idle or does it need to be at 4k in order to set the timing of choice ?

Ok, so i just need to find the correct timing for my engine ! So, how do i go about find this ? I've heard of other talk about certain timing that are the best for overall performance but for a 13B i'm really not sure.

I think rhe photos were in a yahoo photo album. Unless someone saved them im not sure how to recover them unfortunately.
