A little help for a young rotory enthusiest

I have an 81 RX-7 and I have owned it for 1 year the engine was rebuilt 40,000 miles ago. I was on a long drive and when I was going up a hill in higher RPM's it backfired 10+ times and then died.. Now it barely runs only with the choke fully engaged. I need a direction to folow to fix my problem.. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Kevlar

I would get a compression test on the motor. Then go from there.

Do a search and there are several threads to help you out on this.

Since it will run (sorta) with the choke, it's probably lean, ie, not enough fuel or too much air. Look for any vacuum hoses disconnected, then see if the carb is getting fuel. You can see if the carb has fuel in it by looking down the front barrels while you open the throttle. It should squirt gas.

Hope that helps,
Kerry
