Let the monstor begin!

Thank you so much rxtacy3 for the car. I have gotten right to work on it.

Today was a good test of the over heating problem. The 83 GS clutch fan went right over to the 84 GSL. Tried to spin it after letting the motor warm up and it would budge, that problem is now fixed. Still have the over heating issue, but I figure it is a stuck t-stat. It got hot, turned the heater on, and in about 1/2 it cooled right off and stayed that way. It might be a high temp t-stat or may just be stuck and when it opened it cooled off nicely.

So with the fan out of the way I went to work removing the targa band and front damper, sorry guys I think that I'm going to keep it.

How about some Images.

83 GS

83 No Damper

83 No Targa

The next shot I placed the damper on the 84 to see how it would look.

We will see what I can do with it. Do not have a dime to spend on it right now other then to keep it running. So, maybe a few side computer jobs will get them the bones needed to get her fixed up right.

**Note to mods, my images are linked from personal web site. So I'm using my own bandwidth. Please to not take down.

The targa band is going to get cleaned up. the plastic/metal/carbon/WTF is it black stuff that the brushed alluinum sits in is messed up... not bad, just you can tell that the rocks and other things on the road have beat it over time.

I'm going to check the hardware store and see if they still sell the rubber compound that my make handle grips out of. Though of just coating it in that and getting a flat black out of it, or seeing if someone can repair it with a high gloss... Not really sure though.. but it will be going on the 84.

I think that Sunday I will get the t-stat in and start taking out the interior. Have been wondering how some of the 83 parts would fit inside the 84. Really need a dash and center console. But some of it will just have to wait. Those things cost, maybe part out some things or swap some stuff in the 83 for parts for the 84.

What do yall think of removing the gsl rear glass and putting the GS rear glass in its place? I don't much care for the rear wiper.

I know you do and a few other people have asked me about it. Their is a shop in town that works with all kinds of plastics. I may see if they can do some repairs on it. painted it must be.

glad the car's working out for ya. i too thought it was a t-stat issue. after changing out the rad and flushed the block, it would sit and idle for a long time and wouldn't get above half way on the gauge. and since it hadn't been run in a while, it kinda was obvious. u got a shop to work in or u have to work outside in the heat?

I work outside in the heat with the threat of the 83 being towed at any day because I live in an apartment complex that you car has to be running and moved. The 83 has not been moved in over a month now. That doesn't send red flags to the office yet unless someone complains to them. So maybe I can strip it, but I buy tools when I have to have them. I don't have a set to just walk out there and start stripping.

I wonder if there are please that lease out shop space that would let me store the car until I got it cleaned out. Will have to look into that.

we rent a 10x20 storage building to keep all the stuff that we don't have room for in our home. the main reason we got one that big was to store the '73 rx3 that i had years ago. with just the car in it, that size is plenty big enough to work around the car. at least i thought so. even if u had to push it outside alittle. rent's only $80/mo. only problem is there's no power actually inside, but i think there's a recepticle somewhere that a drop cord could be used, not sure tho. check around where u live, u might be surprized what u'll find.

I will give a look around. I will have to move in about 5 months so I might look into buying a house, that would give me the space.
