leaking coolant from block!!! oh yeah

Antifreeze is streaming out the side of engine between the rear rotor housing and the rear housing right under the oil filter. Anyway when the engine is idling it is a slow stream but when its revved up it sprays out and really leaks. So this probably means rebuild right? It looks like the gasket between the rear rotor housign and the rear housing is shot and now leaks. So im gonna get a gasket kit for a gslse 13b from mazdatrix for $180 and rebuild the engine. Or can i put in some fluid into the cooling system to block the hole.

Lol thanks

Have you checked the heater hose that's under the oil filter for tears or a loose clamp?

Thats a little premature. You're forgetting that there are heater hoses in that area plus temp sender. Thats where I would check first.

wow.... That makes sense. For about a month the add coolant light would be on around corners (it was low) then for about 3 days its been on constantly. I hit a cone 3 days ago atocrossing and drug it under the car for about 30 seconds under the engine. Could it have knocked a fitting loose? It just happened that fast, so i dont think its a rebuilt yet. Ill check the heater fittings, as i understand it coolant flows through them. And maybee the water temp sensor blew out.

Seeing as you don't have the damned behive oil cooler, the hose isn't rotted out from oil. Check it anyway, if it looks old replace it, its good insurance. Not likely the temp sensor would spring a leak like that.

I had the hose there blow out on me last summer. Since its under the oil filler tube it took its fair share of overspill. The MAzdatrix website says that the hose is very prone to failure because of its location.

i just went out and checked this morning. there were no leaks until the engine warmed up. But i took it aroudn the block and observed the trail of fluid to be anitfreeze still. Then i looked at the hose under teh oil filter (the engine to heater hose) and sure enough, the leak was where it made the connection to the block, and it was the place where all my oil leaked onto. When i revved teh engine more it sprayed out antifreeze. Its teh hose that everyone says is prone to failure and thsi is the one on my engine that when. Thanks for having me look at this before i jsut rebuilt it.

this is the hose

could i use the 2nd gen left rear to heater pipe hose? it is roughly the same shape as the gslse hose. It is also more common. But bould it be used , maybee even with seom modification of the hose?

well, i'm sure you could make it work, but you should just use the correct hose, part number 61-2300-8871 from mazdatrix. usually the hose will spilt and peel back from the fitting on the block. mine blew out last summer and i replaced the hose.

well i took the hose off and there was a cut in it about 1 inch in. I cut the hose there and slid the clamp back. The end going over the flange on the engine is about 1 ich shorter, but it slides on fully and there is enough clearence below the oil pressure thing uner the filter. I drove it about 20 miles and there are no leaks. This will work until the new hose comes in in a few weeks. Thanks guys for telling me it was the heater hose and not the housing gaskets.
