Leak above MOP

At first I thought my metering oil pump was leaking so I pulled it off and put a new gasket on. Obviously I was wrong because it is still leaking. The leak is above the MOP on the front passenger side of the engine. Does any one know where this oil leak could be coming from.
Thanks

I'm pretty sure its not a hose. When I clean the engine block off and then start the engine the oil starts running down the side of the block from around the water pump housing. Is there any oil running through the water pump bracket that is between the watter pump and the block.

Well if you can see it running down can you see where it is coming from. Idno, could it be a leaking front cover gasket or something like that.

Get a pic if you can could help out a bit maybe

I can see it running down the side. But cant tell exactly where it is coming from. I can't see it be from the top of the front cover, i thought there were just O rings in there so if it leaked it would leak inside the front cover and leak out of the bottom. Its a pretty steady flow too.

The only way I would be able to see exactly where it is coming from would be to start taking parts off the front of the engine. But if i need a gasket I will have to order one and I need my car to get to school.

Not a dowel pin leak is it? (cant remember if those are coolant or oil leaks)

Doesnt sound like it tho, those are near the Mazda imprint on the engine.

After further inspection the block is dry above the water pump. So from what I can see from my manuals there are 2 seals/Orings inside the front cover. The oil runs from below the water pump and above the metering pump. From what I understand there is no oil pressure in the front cover. Is it possible for this leak to be from one of the O rings inside the front cover? Someone has had to have a similar leak. I searched and found a couple guys who did but the posts ended with no real solution.
PLEASE HELP

on the old engine, oil would leak from the front cover gasket. This was because I over heated the engine. It continued to run for another 9 years. It just smoked allot from oil burning on the exhaust. The oil leak was a good thing, kept the underbody rust free, and this was back east with salt and snow!

Eventually it stopped when I used oil stop leak.

From what you described, I think you would have to rebuild the engine to address the oil leak.

I have the same problem on my widebody RX-7. In my case I can see oil seeping out between the front cover and the front iron - just about the OMP. It makes a huge mess if you drive it like that. I have not repaired mine yet. You'll have to remove the front cover to replace that gasket. Someone either on this site or on mazspeed posted the repair procedure.
