Red face Laugh away (Or "always check for vacumn or other leaks")

OK, so I finally went to register my 84 turbo SA (I live in Japan, they are all SA's ) this particular car I bought in January its stone stock except for a body kit, and had never really messed with it much to date, do to lack of time and cash.

So I change battery plugs cords etc. get temp plates, and then try to drive the thing to the base for inspection. and it won't Idle period have to juggle the gas around 2k just to keep it running "time to trouble shoot says I"

so I take a quick look at the usual suspects, vacum lines, the dizzy (ignitors), maf etc, etc etc etc WTF? damn thing won't idle for ****.

So i go through the basics again ???

finally I am at the stage of getting pissed 8000.00 cold cash and it sits for 3~4 months and won't even idle

fianlly I pull of the maf to chase some wires back to the ignition switch and some other areas, and guess what the F*&^ing pipe to the maf has a 2.5" long hole where the rubber dry rotted while it sat at my house.

God how many time have I told some of the younger members to check their vacume lines, and check to make sure their Mafs are secured and not leaking? well mine was secure, but it was leaking more than the maf itself could flow

I feel like an asshat,

no comments from peanut gallery (Wacky, Sterling, or Carl)

I'ts good to see I'm not the only one that misses the bonehead simple things, and will admit to it.

My e-shaft is now oriented properly and the motor is in and running.

Thank you for reciprocating the chuckle of the day.

Meh, we all do it. I managed to wiggle the MAF connector loose when cleaning my air filter. Took me an hour to find out why my car was blowing smoke rings.

No worries Trochoid, I just felt insanely stupid casue while I was trying to get it to drive and idle etc. I had to bounce the rpm's around 2k to keep it going, and to very delectible young japanese females were eyeballing me till i missed and it died and wouldn't start

it seems that when the motor would start it would go into cold start, and feed extra fuel so it could start (even though maf told it no air was coming in) but once it was hot it wouldn't start, you can imagine all of the thoughts bouncing around amongst the bubbles in the think tank:

won't hot start = bad side seals?
won't idle = bad/misadjusted TPS?
won't rev past 6.5K ?

etc., etc., etc.

so I felt really stupid when I figured it out and all else was golden

Kenn

btw any damage to your experimental engine?
