Exclamation keep her running

my 83 12a was ran out of gas and now it runs like shiat like just barely running i already changed the filter.. and there is also a leak in the tank so i was wondering if it has a pressure system inside the tank that would cause this? i also read something about a check valve in one of the lines near the carb i dont see this on mine it also looks as if someone put new lines in maybe they didn't put the valve back im not sure any ideas? ...any help to the rotary noob would be great. thanx guys

ps. it runs ok when you keep the revs high like 4 grand high lol

hmmm, i bet you got a line clogged up. could be in the fuel lines, or in the carb itself. i'll chime in again later on what to check. god i'm tired. hahahaha

The tank leak shouldnt affect it. If it runs above 4k, then it doesnt sound fuel starved. Sounds like a vacuum leak. Especially if its idleing rough.

you have most likely got dirt from the bottom of the gas tank into your fuel line& maybe carburetor. Try unhooking the gas line at the carb and blowing some compressed air through the line [towards the back of the car]. If that doesn't do the trick run a little bit of carburetor cleaner into the carburetor by unhooking the gas line again, squirting some into the line, reconnecting it afterwards. Turn on the key for about 30 seconds to get the carb cleaner into the carb then turn the key off and let it sit 4 hours.Next turn on the key and start the car. This worked 4 me a few times.

By looking in the FAQ thread. Look for Peles "end to all no start questions" thread. Also vacuum leak threads will help you as well.
