just mailed out the check for a PCV OMP adapter

after discussing the item with the creater, richard sohn, i just mailed out a check for him for one of his PCV OMP adapters to run oil from a reservoir for the OMP. as i wait for its arrival i need to get things together for its instalation. i know a few of you guys/gals have to be running this thing. so i have i couple questions.

what are you using for a reservoir? i know i see people saying use old radiator over flow tanks, windshield washer fluid tanks, etc. i think id rather have something metal for the long run though. i see these generic "overflow" tanks on ebay and i consider one of those with one of the nipples blocked off. i like the idea of being able to see how much oil is in at a glance.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BBP-A...QQcmdZViewItem

i also want to rebuild a spare OMP i have. can anyone tell me the size of the
o-rings ill need to do so? thanks

I would use the cold start fluid resivore. Already a mount point and it would look stock.

Catch can #3 is an excellent choice, great find. I would prefer to see the outlet on the bottom, but other than that, it's the best one I've seen so far. Any idea as to the volume of fluid it holds? Make sure that the cap is vented, if not you may need to drill a small hole in it.

Dan, the subzero resivoir and the washer fluid resivoir can't hold oil. It would start to break down the plastic they're made out of. Don't use that, it's better to find an oil can like the ones above.

What's this about a PCV OMP mod? this is the first I hear of it

Yea, do you have a link to this thing you've bought? I've seen the adaptors that allow the use of an external tank with the existing omp, but never heard them called a PCV adaptor....

Interesting. I wouldn't think that it would do that to those plastics, but that works.

Those cans on ebay are catchcans for PCV systems. Catches the oil out of the airstream so you can still put a positive pressure on the crancase without intriducing oil to your intake. If oil will mess up the plastics in those tanks, I would expect it to mess up that plastic hose that shows a level.

im referring to the kit that makes it so you can run oil through the OMP through a remote location. i listed it as PCV due to the fact of the name of the company. heres a link:

http://www.rotaryaviation.com/oil_in...p_adaptors.htm

dan--i had thought about using one of the stock tanks that already exist in the bay, but i didnt want to risk the oil corroding the plastic.

trochoid-- i looked forever and at many different can ideas. i didnt want to have to settle for the usual ebay crap. i came accross this one on ebay and went to their site. it looks great. even has an rx7 as their picture on the ebay auction and says for use with premixing. the outlet is right where the side meets the bottom i believe. i would have liked it designed a little different, but this is BY FAR the bast option i have found. if i start having issues ill drill a whole in the cap and put a fitting in it to prevent something falling and risking clogging the system.

The listing on that site is confusing. They have a listing for the second gen mechanical omp, but none for the s5's electronic omp. I'm assuming the one on the far left in the picture, listed as a 3rd gens' adaptor would work, since the bolt pattern and size looks approximately the same, but who knows....

dj55b-- $76 shipped for the adapter, bolts needed for the adapter, washers needed and very nice instructions. i think a very good investment.

82transam--i emailed them and got a very prompt response. id advise you do the same if you have any questions.

trochoid-- i got these specs on the oil can for you:

(7.5” x 3” x 2.5”) w/ Fluid Level Indicator, w/ 1 Input (3/8” Barb Hose Fittings) 24 fl oz. Capacity

it wont hold a full quart, as i desire, but itll hold 3/4 of one.

Well, with the normal output of a mop, the tank should get 2-3 full tanks of fuel before refilling, that's large enough. As far as the size of the hole in the cap1/16" should be large enough and I would go ahead an drill it now.

When I said botton of the tank, I was refering to the underside of it, but #3 is close enough. Some of the catch cans I've seen have a petcock at the bottom for drainage. You should be fine with this one and I will be looking into one for the TII swap. Best part that I like is the sight glass.

trochoid-- i too would prefer for the outlet to be a petcock on the bottom, but i figure this design in good enough. the sight glass is a very good bonus. itll just make life a little easier

Thumbs up questions to aws140

aws140,

1) Earlier in the thread, were those dimentions for the kriegmotorsports can #3 or for something else. I was also curious what is the volume of this thing.

2) Where did you get the MOP aka OMP rebuild kit??? I could use one myself.

Thanks

2) Vipernicus42 has a thread in the archives on rebuilding the mop and where to buy the parts, about 20 bucks, iirc. If it isn't Jon's thread, then it may be Kim's FB thread. CRS is setting in tonight from lack of sleep.

I hope this tank and setup gets installed before I start my TII swap. This is one mod I really want to do, I hate having to pre-mix as it is now.

e_sirfaced-- go to this link. on the 3rd page there is a picture with the lowe's performance instructions. you can get the number off of that page. great guys to deal with.

trochoid--i dont know when you plan on the T2 swap, but i assume it wont be before this weekend right? cause this will be installed by this weekend. hopefully today, but we will have to see how much trouble that damn dellorto gives me.

here are some pics of the kit. the "mounting bracket" is the only think im not satisfied with. oh yeah, and teh fact that they didnt even include bolts to mount it to the can. oh well.

as you can see in the pics there is a drain plug in teh bottom that could also be used for the feed line. ill more than likely but a 90* nipple in that hole and plug the other.
