Just joined the ranks.
I just bought an 81 and was told the engine is blown. Worst case, how much should it cost to get this baby on the road?

Used 12a's are cheap. I see them go for 2-300 all the time, long block style. If you do the work yourself then that is about the total price (aside from oil/coolant etc...). You can get a nice rebuild/streetport for 1500. Lots of options, do you want to stay stock or go faster?

What kind of money wouldyou like to spend. A streetported 12a would be the best in the long run. But for now you could buy a used 12a, a full RB exhaust system, and maybe a good intake mani/carb for the same price as the streetport. After you max out the stockport though, you will be kicking yourself for not going SP when you had the chance.

welcome. these cars are a blast. there are many places that can build you an engine that will just scream. my personal favorite is www.atkinsrotary.com . they built me 12a and i've never been happier. very quality work and craftsmanship. great and helpful people also. check out there site and give them a call. they will be more than happy to talk to you.

I'm not really sure what I want to do right now. I have a '65 Chevy truck I am working on right now. I don't know hardly anything about RX7's, but I thought it would be fun to learn about rotaries. I haven't even opened the hood on the car since I got it home, so I really don't know where I stand.
Is it common practice to rebuild your own motor, or have a shop do it?
