Just bought a rotary samurai...

Just bought the suzuki samurai mentioned in this thread https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...hlight=samurai

Haven't checked it out in person yet though, and I wont be able to until I pick it up. Any tips on a quick fix for a 12a that wont idle? I've only dealt with FI rotaries, not sure how to deal with a carb. And if i can't find an easy fix to it, is there any way i can just set it to idle high so it wont stall out?

I forgot to mention I'm going to have to drive it 1500 miles or so to get it home :P

I'm mostly just looking for a quick fix to a carb problem, so I wont have too much trouble driving it back. Hopefully its just a vacuum leak, and I'll be able to fix it without much trouble, theres not many vacuum lines on a carbed 12a right?

you might have to 'love tap the carb bowls if the floats stick and it pours gas into the carb barrels.
I went down to houstin and taped the carb around, and drove it home. got a hella deal, guy didnt want to mess with getting it fixed at a shop($$)

Cool! Good luck with the Samurai, that thing should kick some *** now that it has a real engine! Oh and good luck driving it that far. The engine will probably do fine but your back is gonna kill ya.... I know, I had a Samurai way back when. They ain't smooth

Thanks for the suggestions, but why would I get a trailer? It takes half the fun out of it :P

I've also heard the 12a has significantly more low end torque then the stock 1.3 liter piston engine that comes in a samurai. They only weigh around 2000lbs, so I'm not really worried.

Hey.. you bought it!! If I hadn't just bought be a winter car, I would have definetly got that. A 4x4 Rotary powered vehicle is definetly rare. You should pull out the 12a and do a 13b turbo swap. Then it would be the ultimate winter vehicle (turbo 4 wheel drive!).

I talked to him on the phone, and the 4wd still works. It was part of the reason I bought it, just couldnt stand driving my corolla all winter. As for a turbo samurai, check this out http://rz-products.com/WAYNE/updates/updates.html
The guy started putting a 13b in, but the transmission was too long. So in went a 4g63. I imagine its pretty quick.

And no, I've actually never looked under the hood of an FB. Guess my assumption about the vacuum hoses was a bit off. I'll bring a manual with me though and see what I can figure out.
