just bought a 85 rx7
hey everyone i am new to this forun and i just recently purchased a 85 rx7 with the 12 a engine and 5 speed tranny . ok now heres the thing... the engine will need to be swapped out or rebuilt but i decided to swap it out . would the RX-7 S4 13B-T 86-88 bolt in ? i can also get the tranny ecu and wire harness. i got the car for 400 dollars because the rx7 always been my dream car . i don't know why everytime i here rx7 i just get a smile . everyone is tellin me do the v8 swap but i'm not gonna do that . why buy a rx7 to put a v8 in it ? kinda defies the point of a RX7 huh . well any help is greatly appreciated.
hehe...I don't even read V8 swap threads when they are posted. It just isn't my cup of tea. There's tons of info on here that can be found with a search on this forum. Copy and paste them into a word document and you'll have a book.
you can swap the 13bt in you just need to get the gslse 13b front cover and oil pan so it will fit the mounts 86+ mount different, so basicaly yea it mounts right in, then you need to wire it up to a custom computer (prefferably), check out the FAQ
i can get the ecu and complete wire harness so thats not a big deal ..... as for the oil pan . it will come with the 13b engine so thats gona be ok too . now the front cover . this might siound stupid but what is that ? and when i went look at the car on the back it had gsl . did they have any 12 a cas with that? or does this car have the 13b motor? its a 1985 gsl . or where can i lok to see what motor it is?

The S3 and S4 oil pans are different, due to the way the engines mount in the 1st and 2nd gen chassis. You need the GSL-SE oil pan, front cover and oil pickup tube. The 1st gen engines are front mount, the 2nd gens are side mount.
the front cover is exactly what it sounds like. Its on the front of the engine, it covers the oil pump and chain. If you can get the t2 engine, go that route, make sure to get the ecu and harness, you will want to have those.
