I passed the New Driver's test with 1.5 demerits... the first time... BEAT THAT BIATCH!

Just joshin' ya man... don't worry, you'll pass eventually.

And for all you yanks or non-Brisith Columbians out there, the BC lisencing system is really tough. Our FIRST road test (we have to take two) is tougher than your only one, and the second one is even harder. The first one has a fail rate of something like 74% or something stupid like that...

yeah, if you make a "Dangerous action" (running a red, illegal lane change, etc), it's an automatic fail. Otherwise you can have 3 demerits in any section (3 sections) before you fail. If you have 3 demerits in any of the 3 sections, you fail.

The sections are like Vehicle control, Pre-trip (hand signals, etc), and Overall Handling or something stupid like that.

It USED to be like 40 demerits or something

My only demerits were all half demerits. One was for following distance ( I was at like 1.5 seconds instead of 2), lane position (he wanted me to drive in the middle of the two lanes in a park area where cars were parked on both sides of the road, just in case someone opened their door), and the other one was for stopping too far back from an intersection.

I would suggest taking some ICBC-approved driving lessons It helped me out a lot

Geez... Here in Quebec they changed the rules a few years ago, it's a little more strict, but nowhere near that..

You *used* to be able to take just a driving test when you were 16, and if you passed, you could drive.

Now when you're 16 you take a long written test (badly translated from french if you take it in english)... If you pass that you spend a year driving with your parents or a person who'se had a full licence for more than 5 years.

If you take a driving course that drops to 8 months.

Then you take your driver's test, if you pass you get a limited licence with only 4 points to lose, 0 alcohol tolerance.

A year of that, another test (methinks) and you get a full licence.

I took my first test almost a year ago now, and the only thing the evaluator said was "Jonathan, you have to learn to be more agressive at intersections.. Now go get your licence inside"

October : Get full licence.. Thank god, I only have 1 point left of the four. And could you believe I actually lost those 3 on my bicycle? I ran a stopsign, got hit by a car, but since I had a driver's licence, and a bike's not a pedestrian, it's a "vehicle", they had the right to take 3 points.

To date I've never done anything wrong in a car.. only on a bike, but one screwup in my car and I'm toast.. Until October.

Dude, I got points on my lisence for riding my bike on the sidewalk (illegal here) the wrong way on a one-way street. I phoned up ICBC when I got the letter, complained, and they removed the points from my lisence.

And here's it's

Knowledge test - "Learner's" (gotta drive with someone with full lisence for 6 months minimum, 3 if you take ICBC approved lessons) You also have to display the Red magnet with an "L" on it. You also can't drive between the hours of 12:00am and 6:00am.

First road test - "Novice" you can drive by yourself with no alcohol whatsoever in your body, and you must display the green "N" sign on the back of your vehicle. No other restrictions. This lasts for 18 months. They're also harder on you if you get speeding tickets, etc, especially with all the street racing going on now.

Second road test - You get your full lisence, no restrictions, standard .08 blood alcohol limit.

They need to toughen up like that here in the states. Sorry kids but you do realize you can KILL people with a car right? If you kill yourself I could give a ****, but what about the innocent people who get killed/maimed/crippled by bad and/or irresponsible drivers? I think you should be retested every 5 years, and followed by DMV covertly from time to time to see how you REALLY drive. %80 of the people here in FL would be walking or taking the bus! Maybe more like %95.

Driving while talking on a cell phone? 1yr suspension.
Running a red light? 1yr suspension
Street racing? no more license--------EVAR!!!!!
Hurt someone cause of your dumbass driving? See street racing above, and tack on some jail time.
DUI?- See street racing above, and tack on some jail time.
"Sorry officer, I didnt see the stop sign" dont cut it with me. If you cant see a stop sign you shouldnt be driving a car PERIOD.

Maybe if they got harsh on people, they wouldnt drive like asswipes. Driving is NOT a priveledge, its a responsibility. If you cant drive perfectly for a short road test or 2, how can you say your ok to drive reasonably SAFELY for the rest of your life?

BTW, Im not picking on you Fennix_sr, just ranting about a serious subject. Good luck on your next test. You'll pass dude. Look at some of the ****** ******** they give licenses to right?

ewww remind me never to move to FL.

i live in CA, our rules are not that hard.

we can talk on our cell phones. running a stop sign is a $150 ticket, speeding is not to big of a ticket unless your going way above the speed limit.

i guess we got it easy and should not complain.

please try an obay the law

Oh yeah, and our speeding ticket fines have gone up up up.... 40 km/h over is $460

and if you go $40 over, they can immediately suspend your lisence for 3 months. 60 over and they can take it away for a year.

I agree, our tests are way to easy. Any idiot can get a licence. I've seen a ton of people who should definatly not have one, both male and female. Oh well, nothings gonna change I guess.

Hmm.

I could have sworn I posted here earlier.

Anyways, what I said was....

Think of it this way. Imagine if you HAD your license, and since you didn't know you had to make a FULL stop at a red before making your right turn....you just slowed down, and turned.

...in front of a cop.

The cop pulls you over, and is about to write you up for running a red light, (which is usually a big fine) and he smells some nice illegal marijuana.

"Son, I'm gonna need you to step out of the vehicle. Hmm....what's this under the passenger seat? "

Now, you have a moving violation fine, your car is impounded, and you're taken to jail.

Numerous fines later, you have to ask yourself:

Would you have rather made the mistake on your driving test.....or in front of a cop?
