Weird thing happened twice today...car wouldn't start. WTF happened?

Ah...jeez.

Welps...my idle finally stopped going nuts two days ago..it was a slightly lumpy (streetport) idle at 800 the whole day.

Anyways, I had to register my wife's WRX today..and after I pulled in and stopped the car, took care of business, and jumped back in.....the dang thing wouldn't start immediately.

It took three long cranks to get it started....this really unnerved me.

When it did start...it's like it was about ready to die...idling VERY lumpy at around 300-500rpms, until I gave it some gas. I parked at the PAX terminal next..and had it happen a second time.

I had 1/4 of a tank left...and I filled it up immediately.

My idle problem came back again..but I did notice that when I had my parking lights on...it didn't have an idle problem and it still idled around 800-1000rpms.

I'm worried...I still haven't had it tuned yet, because Ralph at GZ/XM hasn't got his dyno set up yet.

Any ideas, or am I just being paranoid? I'm going to go do some more errands and see what happens...

Thanks...

Was the car warm? Did you bypass the FPR solenoid?

How are your plugs?

Mine did the same thing at idle sometimes, then I started having starting problems. It got progressively harder to start until I just couldn't start it at all -- turned out to just be really fouled spark plugs. (which was rather embarrassing, but in my defense they were platinums with only 3500 miles on them).

Since then I've changed the plugs and have had the car retuned some so they would last a bit longer, and it seems to be better.

Plugs are brand new....installed when the engine was installed....injectors have been cleaned and flow to excellent condition.

The car was at 180 degrees...

Sounds like a blown engine... j/k!

I HATE idle problems. I fought forever with the idle on my old engine (found out later I had a cracked apex seal, so that was the problem). My new engine still doesn't idle quite right, but it's much much better.

Damian had a good write up a few days ago about adjusting the idle. Maybe you should check that out.

Welps...I think the idle is simply because the PFC hasn't been tuned yet...

I've already checked all of the voltages, and they're all within spec...so that can't be the problem.

We'll see after it's tuned...if it still doesn't fix the problem, I'm going to rip that section of the engine apart and figure out what's up.

The idle is alright again...but that starting problem really freaked me out earlier.
