Update by an idiot
Flame on fellas.
I've been out of town this weekend, home now, and working on the 7. replaced fuel filter, plugs, cap and dizzy rotor. Weird thing, one of the posts on the dizzy cap was a little bent. Boy, that can't be good. I figure I bumped it while I was putting on my steering column and bent the rotor. Thats cool, I just got another one. Put everything on and drove it around, hard, or spirited as y'all like to say. Running so nice, pulling hard and staying cool. Problem fixed. One for glew. One hour into it started to warm up. So I brought it home and let it idle in the driveway. Kept on warming up. This is no good. I thought I fixed you. You don't like me. Nobody ever likes me. Thats because you're all I think about and talk about. I pine for when you ran nice.
Pull the dizzy cap, and the trailing post is cut. I mean there is a mm deep gash in the trailing contact. I think I really banged the distributor. Badly. Much worse than I thought I did. Come to think about it. You weren't overheating nearly as much as you were after I fixed the steering. Replace the distributor? I think that is gonna happen now. God this is getting expensive. I knew I shoulda bought a honda. I'm feeling pretty stupid.

Don't know if this will help. My 84 was overheating in the hot weather. I took it to a radiator shop. He checked it for heat build up indicating blocked areas, found none. Checked the coolant mix and said it was too rich. I watered it down and the overheating went away. Might check that aspect.
