Interior swap question...
Hey!
It's a miracle. I actually own an FB now.
I just bought an 84 GS. It has the horrible burgundy interior, which I can't tolerate at all.
Therefore, I want to swap in a complete black interior. "Search!" is what you're thinking, right? But there's a catch:
I hate the 84-85 dash as well. I want to swap in a complete 1983 interior. My question is simple: Do I have to change to an 83 air conditioner/heater core/whatever? What do I have to do to change out the entire 84 dash for an 83 dash? Getting the complete interior is actually easy enough, I'm just concerned about keeping the accessories in check.
Thanks guys.

Well, there's one other thing I want to try to do at the same time... Since I'm doing a complete interior swap, I am thinking of getting rid of the factory air/heater controls and getting a computer controlled unit out of an Audi...
MMMMM Automatic temperature control. Dig it. Dig it hard.

I did mine recently. I used an entire parts car. Here are some tips/steps:
You will have to make block off plates for the vent holes in the '84, and seal'em up good.
You will have to drill holes in the body structure to bolt down the '83 dash. You will understand when you have the 2 of them side by side.
You will need both wiring diagrams, and a lot of patience.
You will need the '83 fan assembly, as it is mechanicaly controlled. I believe the heater core itself can stay.
Let me know if you need any more specific help.

I have done this exact thing twice, here is what is the easiest way to do it. Get a full 81-83 wiring harness including engine harness. take out ur 84-85 wiring harness and interior and swap away, as for the 81-83 dash bolting in u will only use the 2 bolts on eash side to bolt in not the three top ones as in the 84-85, all in all it took me about 16-20 hours to do a complete interior/ wiring swap if u have any questions feel free to pm or email me at jason_child@hotmail.com and il help u as best i can

I like it too, but I've never seen one that wasn't all cracked up and shitty looking by now. i hope you can find a decent one.

So how much did this car cost you, and do you have pics?

Yeah, the earlier interior looks much better.
I HAD an extra black dash in perfect condition until we moved and someone set something on top of it that punched a little hole in it. Suddenly, a $100 dash becomes virtually worthless.
