Intercoolers what about these?

What do you guys think about these intercoolers for a first gen?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEBWA%3AIT

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEBWA%3AIT

For some reason the second one doesn't looke quite right like the bars are too fat lessoning the fins?

I am really looking at the first one.
Here's the questions.....

1) do you think this is a quality piece (work better than the starion I have now?), the price seems right.

2) do you think it will fit in the front of a first gen?

3) Will it be too big for the stock series 4 turbo resulting in lag (tid mod and full 3 inch exhaust)?

I am planning to upgrade to maybe a garrett gt35/40 later so

4) will it be alright for about 400 horsies when I upgrade the turbo?

I would like to put it in now and run it with the stock turbo for a few years till I upgrade the turbo.

thanks

The first one is better, you want at least 3" thickness. Are you having the piping going from passenger side to driver's side? Where are you mounting it, above the oil cooler?

Some people at Honda-tech said they had the ebay intercoolers crack and the weld. I would buy though since it so cheap!

Gotta remember, though, the thicker it is, the more it will resist airflow through its core. If it's mounted up fornt like the Hondas, that's not too big of a problem if the surrounding area is sealed off forcing the air through the core at speed, but out of that area and airflow DOES become a factor for consideration of the 2 in. thick intercooler...and look at that shine!!

Yes, it does have the bling bling factor....lol It will be a front mount with the inlet going from the pass side accross to the drivers side. I would like to mount it above the oil cooler if I could make it all fit. I will most likely be using a second gen oil cooler so there will be some massaging to get it all in there. (haven't really looked at what is involved to fit the second gen oil cooler.

I heard you don't want the intercooler to block the oil cooler. I took some very rough measurements of the car and I think it will fit length wise. (that's really all I measured). Looks like the inlets and outlets will just barely poke out the sides of that shroud that is on both sides of where it will be mounted.

More ideas anyone?

I'm going to mount my intercooler in the dead area under the hood on the passenger side of the 12A in my '83 RX-7 and have it sit parallel to the hood with dense closed cell foam to create a seal against the hood which will be sporting a "427" style air dam up top...

Another thing to consider. You don't want the IC too close the the radiator. The radiator "radiates" heat especially in traffic.

I'd take the bar and plate one, even though it is only 2" thick.

Thanks for the opinions guys, all of these coolers seem to be readily available on ebay so there should be enough for everyone......anyways for a little more money looks like you can get a spearco like these:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2461480037

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2461515144

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2462015265

Is it better to splurge and get a spearco, that other bar and plate just looks a little funky.

How hard is it to get some brackets welded on?

Brackets arent that hard at all. Any radiator/muffler shop with aluminum welding capabilities could do it pretty cheap. The Spearco looks the same as the others, only more expensive.
