intercooler for an FB?

Question for the turbo guys. What IC are you guys running or can recomend? Is there one particular style that fits best on our cars. I'll be using an S4 turbo going to a weber.

Thanks, Ed

those are kind of big, but the smaller one wont suit much upgrading if you need it. i saw in my sport compact, that what you could do is buy a truck intercooler, cut in half, and make a two row out of it....that is if you can weld, you need to make endtanks....

Ok, I will tell you guys what. I just did most of the install for my XSpower intercooler. Since there seems to be a lot of interest I will do a quick write-up with pictures. You will have to give me a couple days though. Working 12-14hr days really wears on you fast.

Just for reference I purchased the 24"x12"x3" xspower one.

Yeah just try using an old Isuzu diesel intercooler. They're small and should provide adequite cooling. BUT it depends on your application

Got mine from Boostcoolers for 400 bucks brandnew. Its pretty big but if youve got a TO4 or better, shes just right.

Big intercoolers and airdams are great together.I just used a bodysaw to cut some slots in the sidewalls of the airdam, then slid the IC in like a cassette into a player. It fits so snugly between the frame rails and under the bumper structure that I didnt have to make any mounts or braces. It just sits right in place, solid as a rock, and it cant be removed without taking the entire front of the car apart.Plus, being a solid, bar type core and having cast endtanks,it can take a lot of impact abuse,so I dont anticipate ever having to pull it out.And the extra mass helps a lot with cooling at lower speeds/higher outside temps.

I was going to get something like this top-bottom style: http://www.roadraceengineering.com/p...c-sameside.jpg

That way I wouldn't have to relocate the battery which is a pain in the *** at the track since you need a cut off switch and sealed box.

assembled, pic and front pic
doing the i/c piping like this will create some extra turbo lag due to the much longer piping .. but your battery stays where it is

The IC is about 30"Wx10"Hx3"D.
I choose it because it would just fit between the fram rails, and just clear the bumper X-member above.Like I said, its squeezed in the so tight,it cant move in any direction more than a smidge. Its the perfect setup, all the space utilized, pretty much theft-proof and securely mounted with....no mounts!

I dont have any pics,it was years ago, before I got a camera. But the install is as simple as I described.......cut 2 vertical slots in the airdam sidewalls the same thickness as the IC,slide IC into slots, install airdam.....done.

I am using a 3 x 12 x 24 bar and plate design from ebay, it fits fairly easily with two "L" brakets mounting it to the side rails of the frame,

it keeps the air temps at around 25~32 degrees centigrade in city driving this was measured via the power FC commander.

I am not sure how well it will do in the summer months though, as it so far just got completed. that is at stock boost levels with the stock turbine. will try and get some photos loaded next week.

incidently I will be changeing to a to4E in the may time frame and thats where it will really bbecome important.
