Is insulating header bad?

i found this material used to wrap headers, insulating the engine bay from the exaust heat...and i was thinking it would be a good thing to use in the engine bay to cut down on excessive heat build up...but would it be bad to hold that heat in untill it hits the weaker back pipes of my exaust?

I have 1984 gs in Tucson AZ. I have had my header wraped for about a year now. It works great. It keeps the under hood temp down even during the 100 degree plus days. It also keeps the exhaust quieter inside the car.

I prefer the heat shield approach myself. Some creative modifications of the stock exhaust manifold heat shield will make it quite usefull for the header as well. I use the shield off the thermal reactor and it does a good job of reducing underhood temps.
