Instument Cluster Not Working
Instument Cluster Not Working
Like it says above. The tach, fuel gauge, oil pressure, temp gauge, and fuel gauges are all dead. The cluster lights up and two lights (batt, and exhause temperature) are on whenever I'm not pressing on the gas. The battery is being charged, so the alternator is fine. As far as the other light, I have no idea. I believe that the cluster gets its power from a single + wire. I think I checked the right one (according to the fsm diagram), but it looks like it's getting power. Anyone have any ideas?
This is a long shot but there are two plugs under the shifter boot that need to be unplugged, they are for the automatic transmission only. If they are plugged in it will blow out the fuse and dimmer switch, so you won't have any lights, but as I recall the guages still worked, so it doesn't quite fit your symptoms. But it just takes a second to gently pull up the boot. It's easy if the pins that hold the boot to the trim are already shot, but be careful not to break any pins that you might have left.
Haven't had the chance to look for those connectors, but thought of more stuff that might help. The horn , the windshield wipers, and the turn signals don't work, nor do the emergency flashers. The headlights and the windshield washers, on the other hand, work. I've checked the FSM wiring diagrams, but I have a hard time making heads of tails of that thing. Is there one connection that could be loose somewhere that I should be looking for? Or are these more likely to be unrelated problems.
Also, one of my headlights goes up when it's supposed to be down and goes down when it's supposed to be up. I don't see any place where the wires were altered and the connector doesn't look like it could be reversed. Should I just reverse the wires on the motor, or is there something else that could be wrong along the line?
I'm having problems tracking down the electrical gremlins that seem to be plaguing my car.
