Installing A/C

I'm sure that this question has been asked before, but I just spent 2 hours searching the board for answers and I didn't find what I was looking for.

Basically, I want to know how difficult it would be to install an A/C system in an SA that has never had A/C in it before. I live in Florida and to be quite blunt, its as hot as two hells here. If you could suggest what the most cost effective route is, it would be greatly appreciated. Since I do not have an FB yet, find a car with A/C is an acceptable route, but please keep the answers constructive. Thanks in advance.

Well 1st of all, Welcome to the forum and wonderful world of Rotaries.
I could see where you would want A/C in Florida, I spent 3 years in Houston,TX and without A/C during the summer is horrible.

It's not difficult on our cars. Everything is pretty much bolt on and go. Most of the A/C on the SA's were options back then. You need a compressor/receiver drier/evaporator core and the correct box for it. The A/C condenser and hoses, plus the mounting bracket that goes on the engine. You probably need the ducting inbetween the blower housing and heater box to connect the air supply.
If the controls are the same as the Fb's(meaning that all Fb's were wired and ready for all available options) then it's a matter of just hooking up the wires. May have to look at the FSM (factory service manual) to determine this. I would imagine that they are.

its like 82 & pretty humid right now by tampa florida, where i live. I had an 85 FB and put A/C in it. Well, fixed everything needed for it to work- all new hoses, new expansion vavle in the evaporator box, and new reciever/dryer. This is obvious, but make sure to convert to r-134. You need the 2 fittings for high and low side that bolt on somewhere in the a/c system (mine were on the compressor, but a different compressor would have different locatons for the fittings). Let us know how things go!
