Inside of car too loud.

So I have an 82 GSL with rb header and 2.5 inch pipes to a straigh through magnaflow, and it is really loud in my car, i can't talk on the phone too well on the freeway.

Right now my interior is all out as I finish redoing it and running all the wires to set up my new stereo. I was wondering if there is anything type of sound insulation I can lay around my car to make it quieter inside becuase I dont want to spend $$$ on a stereo I can't even hear. Oh, and talking to bz's on the phone gets too hard I want to be able to hear them a little bit.

Good. You shouldn't be on the goddamn phone on the freeway anyway.

Once you get the rest of the interior back in, it will quiet down a bit, but you can get dynamat or things like that (check ebay) for more sound deadening.

Every metal surface the more you cover the quieter it will be.

Someone on these forums said that Lowe's sold some material that was the same as the Dynamat, but sold in larger sizes and MUCH cheaper.

Here's some info:
https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...hlight=Dynamat

Do a search on the forum using Dynamat and you'll see a page of threads for this topic.

Dynamat is great but it is not that light there is some stuff made by B-Quiet that I am looking into getting for my car there is a lot of information on there site and they have a couple of independent studies where the compare there product, Dynamat, and some others. They are only slightly under Dynamat but the material is lighter and cheaper. You can also find there stuff for sale on Ebay. There web site is http://b-quiet.com/

Where and how much of to use you use is up to you. On my car I plan on using the Dynamat or B-Quite padding on the entire floor as far up the fire wall as I can go, and I will put an extra layer over the transmission tunnel. I will also cover both of the doors, on the surface and the back of the openings where the speakers go. In the back I plan on covering the entire floor & the sides including the tire well and them I plan on using another layer of 1/2 sound deadining material on the RR to cut back more noise from the exaust. But it really is up to you on how far you want to go.

By the way where in the East bay are you located. I like to hear what you exhaust setup sounds like.

I run a s/c streetported 13b in my SE with 2 1/2" exhaust, RB header & presilencer and magnaflow. I ended up adding a second presilencer to get the desired sound without compromising power.

that setup is going to be loud as hell no matter what you do. i am running pretty much the same setup, i highly suggest you put another muffler in there, pre-silencer or resonator.

i first tried just straight pipes to the magnaflow and it sounded all tingy and much too loud, then went to a universal resonator, which lowered the tone a bit but still wasnt quiet enough so now i'm running a magnaflow high flow cat and straight through muffler. its still loud so i'm thinking of putting another magnaflow right after the header.

g'luck

Man, I just spent 200 for them to weld up my pipes. I can't afford to change it, especially while im saving for my 13b

get the following

resonator or high flow cat, 13" or 14" total length is about average.
cutting arbor + adapter for handheld drill
2x 2.5" exhaust clamps

get under your car, drop the first part of the muffler piping. hopefully you will have a section that is straight enough to drop in a resonator or cat. get out the arbor (you could use a hacksaw aswell but its a mega pain in the *** unless you can get your exhaust right off the car), cut out a section to match the center length of the res/cat. enough so that you can slip the res/cat overtop of these tubes, so maybe a inch extra on each side. then get your exhaust clamps and tighten it down as tight as possible, start it out, feel around for leaks, if there is any large exhaust leaks tighten some more or use more exhaust clamps.

you can pickup a resonator for like $18 on ebay, but i would suggest going into a high flow cat or yet another straight through muffler.

heres a link to a cheapo resonator.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Unive...spagenameZWDVW

overall this is the best way to solve your car being too loud and you wont have to worry about cops giving you noise polution tickets so much either.

i run racing beat header to presilence to a weapon r stainless packed muffler and it's LOUD. I got pulled over and had a cop tell me to turn off my car so he could hear me talking. I'm looking at going Racing Beat. I don't want loud anymore. I'm just growing out of it ya know. If it was a track car I wouldn't mind it too much, but it's not and it's getting annoying.

This has nothing to do with your question, but I agree with him. Cell phone + Vehicle = (should anyway) death penalty. Keep it loud so we don't have another goon driving around on their cell phone crashing into things. I had a friend who wrecked while tryping to type a freaking text message. A TEXT MESSAGE.
