injector problem

Hi, my freind has a 84 gsl se. It doesnt seem to start and we looked into it.The car has a 13b with 2 injectors. The injectors have pulse which is good but we realized that the injectors are not opening to apply fuel. What is causing them not to open? We used another set of injectors and still the same. There is good fuel pressure as well. Using starter fluid started the car right up but wont start on its own.Anyone no the problem???

You can test the injectors for opening by pulling them from the engine, tieing them down to the fuel rail and cranking. This is extremely dangerous so have an extinguisher within reach and find a way to contain the spray. A shop rag will do, keep your flesh out of the way. I find it odd that 4 injectors fail to spray. I would make sure the fuel pump is pumping and test the injectors wires for the pulse first. Do the injectors click while cranking?

Has there been any other work done on the engine, particularly regarding the intake, fuel rails and fuel supply? If so, make sure the fuel lines are connected in the right order.

i no of the danger from the spray.....the car was normally fuel injected and then went to carb. Now recently we put it back to fuel injected again idk if that has to do with anything. The fuel pump goes on we can hear it as we move the key forward.Every hose is in.From what i remember was that the injectors had pulse but dont remember if they clicked or not.

Ah, that may make all the difference. Have you looked at the fuel pump? It may still have a low pressure carb pump or a bypass fuel pressure regulator still installed with the OEM high pressure one. I really doubt a low pressure pump would ever open an injector.

Blue, red or black? Color relates to gph and it's most likely a low psi fuel pump. Time to look for an external FI pump. An external Walbro , 255 lph works fine and it's cheaper than ORM

Keep in mind that there's a wire lead going to the forward mounted coil which the ECU uses as a trigger for the fuel injection system. It's possible that whoever installed the carb disconnected the EFI lead as part of their project.

If that's the case, and you have the right fuel pump installed, then it still won't fire the injectors because the computer doesn't how when.

Also, on SE's, the fuel pump won't turn on until the AFM door is open (during cranking). There's a way to bypass that safety measure, but fuel isn't pressurized until then - so your comment about 'hearing' the pump turn on is another indicator that it doesn't have a EFI pump installed - either that, or it's been jury-rigged to come on with the key.
