I'm wanting more advice again...

Alright, so my car was more work than I had expected it to be.

I owe my mom about $3000 for it right now, and RIGHT AFTER we just got it fixed (I got in a wreck), the transmission gets hung up in 4th. And now my mom is saying that a guy is selling 1st gen for $800, and the only thing she saw wrong with it was that the paint was a bit messed up. So far, my first Rx-7 has been really hard to deal with, and I'm kinda wondering whether or not it likes me. I think it hates me.

Here are my options: Part out my current car (Since I think I could get more money out of it that way) and then buy this $800 one (That is, if it's in good enough shape... I have yet to drive it.)

Or should I just save up a bunch more money, and hope some people can pull some favors, and replace my current car's transmission?

OR should I sell my current car, buy a $1500 '83 that's been sitting for 3 years? (This is totally a last-ditch thing... But I figured I'd add it in anyway.)

I really don't wanna give up on my car, but my step dad is pressuring me to get rid of it anyway, because he has absolutely no faith in me, or my car. Personally, I don't think I really want to give up my car, but why should I wait forever just to have someone pull the engine and all, and replace the tranny? Or should I just ditch it and buy that '83? I could lube it all to hell and get it moving without much worry (except for the belts...)

What do you guys think?

KEEP THE RX-7!! and if possible buy the other one and use the tranny from it and then part out the rest of the car. You will make back all of your money and then some! This is of course if your parents will let it sit in their yard (mine wont let me ) I couldn't agree more with jr69187, the RX-7 and the Wankel engine is more than just a interest and a hobby, its a part of me..... its in my blood too! Yea, at the age of 15, my dad (who knows about cars) bought me the an 85 GS... At first, I didn't enjoy it much--I expected a newer sports car... Upon driving and learning about it, I became imersed into the world of cars--I had begun to love cars. Ever since then, I've been obsessed with cars (at least that's what the women say... ). Having this 7 has taught me ALOT of things about cars and car repair (cuz sadly, the 7 needs lots of work).

Anyway, I'm happy I got this 7, and I still have it

tr7 are not rotaries. They are made by triumph and they are 4 bangers or 6's. But not like hondas these are a refined four banger and i juts love his tr7. so much fun but the rx7 is just another world. But british cars are fun!!!

I miss my RX-7...

I love high revving engines. Tried to do that in my Honda and skipped the timing belt over a tooth. Guess I'm lucky it was only one tooth cause it's an interferance engine..

Well, I finally have pictures of my car... We just put new pieces on...

I'm pretty sure we're gonna replace the transmission in this one, but I'm thinking that I won't be able to drive it for another few months, 'cause I've got a lot of saving up to do in order to do that.

Unless someone just wants to pull the engine and do it all for me? `,=oD... You can have my broken tranny!

lol

Hey, check this out, Btw, why pull the motor? Just jack the car up on some jack stands and do it that way. You can have it out in fifteen minutes this way and you don't need to pull the motor. (side note, the tranny is light as hell so you won't have much of a problem if you have a little help getting the tranny brace on)

It's so easy! On top, take off the slave cylinder.. probably can just cut the hose and save time. One bolt on top has to come off from the top, I think... can't remember for certain. If you want the shift lever, take off the ****. Underneath, unbolt driveshaft - might not be needed if somebody else grabbed it or took the rearend, anyway it's only 4 nuts and it's out of the way. Drop starter (2 bolts), disconnect speedo cable, unbolt crossmember (2 bolts), let trans hang and unbolt shift lever from UNDERNEATH the car (3 small bolts), if you took the **** off you can just pull it down, if not let it hang up there. And then it's 4 or 5 engine to trans bolts and the sucker just falls right out.

I did a clutch on my lunch break once

I sent you an eMail, I've got that tranny for you, $100 + shipping and like I said, I can't 100% guarantee it's going to work for sure, but it was pulled out of a crashed car (they don't get crashed if they weren't running usually, right? ) And doing the swap is going to be cake on the FB.
