Ignitors??

I'm running on just the leading ignitor, is this bad for the engine?

Does anyone have any J109 ignitors for sale? Help a brother out.

Right on.

How do you know only the lead J109 is working?

Because my car died week before last, and we traced it to a bad trailing ignitor (=no fuel). I bought a good ignitor and replaced the trailing ignitor and it fired up, but had no power. Research lead me to believe this was no leading ignition. So I tested the leading spark plugs and found no spark.

I then switched the good trailing ignitor to the leading position and switched the wire on the coil which signals the fuel pump, so now I am running on just leading ignition. Runs just like no normal, I just don't have the trailing spark to clean up any unburnt fuel.

Clear as mud, huh?

Right on.

You lost two ignitors at once?

That's either really bad luck or there's another problem that's fried your ignitors. I don't know what that would be, really, but it just seems super odd to me that both would go out at the same time.

Yeah it seems suspect to me as well, that I would lose both ignitors at once, but all signs are pointing to bad ignitors, as when I swap them out I get spark at the appropriate plugs.

I did have it initially towed to a good rotary shop who diagnosed the bad ignitor...maybe it's possible they hosed the leading ignitor in the process, I'm not sure though.

I don't know what would cause both ignitors to go at once, either.

Right on.

Mike, have you tested your ignitors? There's a procedure in the Haines manual, you hook up a volt meter to a couple of leads and it gives a volt reading if good, nothing if bad.
