Ignitor Box

I have an 82 RX7 with a 12A motor and alot of problems I was told I check the ignitor box and have been unable to find it.
It is supposed to be on the drivers side by the leading and trailing coils but I can not find it.
Can someone show me where it would be located in these pics.
Thanks!

The ignitors are located on the side of the distributor. They look like 2 little black boxes. There is a plug in the top of each one with 2 wires in it. The one facing the front of the car is leading. The one facing the alternator is trailing.

What is the problem with the car? Have you checked for spark on all plugs?

You are look for a 1980 box, there wont be one on your 82 car.

Here is a badass site with good info. Also instead of telling you to do a search or give you a link I am going to do better. Here is a link to go straight to the page.

IF all 4 plugs have spark then the two boxes are working.

Nope, that's like being sorta pregnant. Ignitors are either dead or alive, not both.

Yeah my trailing ignitor is on the fritz or something. I will be going down the road and my tach will start bouncind around all crazy. I hope its not the tach, I just replaced it... I assumed it was my ignitor as it runs fine but it just sometimes has this weird issue. Not trying to threadjack, just explaining a personal eperience with a possibly going bad ignitor.

Ignitor

Thanks guys, I don't mind jacking the thread, I need as much info on this car as possible.
Every bit helps, I'll check the spark and get back to you here.
Only thing I have noticed so far is that the L1 seems to be erratic on the spark while the L2, T1 and T2 are constant.
Could the ignitor box be going out slowly or would they just go all at once?

If L1 behaves different than L2, the problem is in the plug wires, distributor cap/rotor. The same coil and ignitor fire both leading plugs.

plug wires

When I bought the car the guy told me that he had just replaced the plug wires, cap, rotor, and plugs.
When I originally went to check the timing, I had barely and spark from the wires (High performance wires?), so I replaced them and the plugs.
I have yet to replace the cap and rotor mainly because they looked new.
Since the same ignitor fires both leads, should I go ahead and replace the cap and rotor again?

j-109 ignitor problem

Hi guys, I am having a similar problem but with no spark to the rear or #2 rotor. Both leading and trailing on the #1 are strong but nothing on the #2 rotor, or very very weak spark if any. I changed the plug wires, checked the coils, changed plugs, changed distributor cap and rotor, and still nothing. Strange Hey!?!

Check the inside of your rotor cap, if it is not installed straight, of if it is leaned on, it shifts, and buggers up the contacts inside the cap.

yeah I tried a new cap even. And yes I made sure it was down properly and lined up. I was just out in the garage messing with it and man it sounds terrible. I have to hold the throttle to the floor with the choke full on just to get it to start at all and then it runs really bad. Awful sounding. I dont understand how this could just happen all of a sudden. I was driving along about 35-40(seriously I wasn't even screwing around) and I pushed in the clutch to slow down for some train tracks and as it came to idle it just sounded crappy. And has ever since. Its a very expensive Hayes racing engine with dual webbers and the whole sheebang. I just feel angry and sad all at the same time. She's my sick baby!

Sometimes I just feel these rotarys are just too fragile.
