I talked to a guy with a 1st gen

I was driving my DD (maxima) I am also rebuilding a second gen. Anyway in the parking lot I see a first gen and the driver is just getting out so I walk over and start talking to him about 7’s. He does not know much about the car but he started talking about how when he bought it (he is the original owner) how he got the upgraded motor and how it was bigger then the stock motor. As fare as I know all 1st gens came with the 12a. Can anyone tell me more about this “upgraded/bigger motor” He also said something about it only be offered for two years.

thanks

In the US. from 1979 to 1983 all 1gens had 12a's w carburetor.
In 1984 & 85 Mazda introduced 13b's w fuel inj in all GSL-SE models. GS, GSL were all 12A's.
