I searched and searched need idle help

I been searchig and reading through this site for weeks. I have a idle that won't go down from 2200 rmps. I removed the rats nest. That didn't help. However it does idle better. I turn the mixture screw and nothing happens. However the idle will adjust up not down. Also it started smoking while it runs. Smells a bit like gas. It is a white smoke. It didn't do that before the rat nest removal. I am worried about the smoke becasue that could mean bad things. Is it possible for the OMP to inject to much oil? Help please. I hope I gave enough info because I am not sure what to tell you guys that would be the most helpful.

Thanks

Well, you mentioned you played with the mix screw and nothing happenned. You do know that the mix screw and the idle adjustment screw are two different things, right?

White smoke means coolant leak, not oil excess.

Yea I know the difference between the two. Just never worked on a carb where you can run the mixture in all the way and it does nothing. And the idle all the way in and nothing.

Coolant that means maybe a gasket in the engine is bad?

hmmm, strange indeed.

But turning the idle screw in would raise the rpms. IIRC.

You have a fairly large vacuum leak. The idle screw and mix screw won't do much until you fix that.

I don't know if this is recommended, but get something flammable, IE methyl Hydrate or carb cleaner etc and spray it in a fine mist around the top of the carb. If idle rises even more, then you know you ahve a leak. THen try misting aroudn the base of the carb and see if any gets sucked in and affects idle.

if the rpms go up, thats where your leaks from

I just rebuilt mine and i found that it leaked around the baseplate. Once i relceaned it and applyed some sealant, it runs fine.

I know it is not a vacuume hose leak. I just changed them all and checked them after. I did not however check the base of the carb. The motor did sit for about 8 months in my garage before going in to the samurai. I am really looking forward to having this motor running good.

Hey maybe you guys might be able to help with a guess at HP. I only have a water pump and power steering pump. 2.5" custom RB header. Elderbrock rpm muffler and the rat nest is gone. Oh yea K&N filter and electric fan. My guess is about 115 - 120 HP. But you guys would know better than I would.

Sorry it is a 85 12A

RX-4X4 do a search for threads started by me. I'm chasing the exact same idle problem on the same engine and walking through what I've done may help you narrow the problem down.

I've replaced my vac lines, cleaned as much gunk out of the linkages as I can and its still high.

One thing I've noticed on mine is that I can grab the tab under the dashpot and pull it up and the idle drops. Like there is something stuck or a misadjusted cable holding it open.

Please please please if you find anything post it here so I can check mine out.

Okay thanks. I will do my best. This sounds like a common problem, but not always a simple fix do to so many things to go wrong with the carb and vac system.

You can't see "****" because there is no "****" in the pics. Try following a dog around they **** all the time.
