i need some sound clips of exhaust...mostly borla guys

im trying to decide what to do about my exhaust for my DD. a stock 12a. the full RB system is an option, but im also looking towards using a RB header and building the rest custom. that way itll be a lot lighter than the RB system and maybe cheaper.

i dont need to worry about cats, emmissions isnt an issue. for the custom route i know the muffler selection is very slim, which just a few options. i havent seen anyone have a borla for an extended amount or time to insure it lasts. hopefully someone has though and can chime in. i just want to hear what your exhaust sounds like and what your set up is.

MODS--we should maybe make a sticky about this. this would make things a lot easier in the future. just my .02

I have a 12a with RB header and then straight 2.5" to a 3.0" Borla XR-1. It is loud.
I will try and get ya a sound clip this weekend. Power wise, I do not think that there is too much difference between mufflers.

I tell you though, the car was never faster than when I ran it mufflerless for a month when I first put the exhaust in. The Borla was a freebie from a friend, and putting it on there made is lose a little bit of power.

The straightpipe sound is ridiculously loud. Makes the ears ring if you are behind the car.

If I were to change the muffler, I would go with a chamberized stainless muffler that was 2.5". Think Dynomax, B & B, Borla, Bassani among others. None will make one specifically for FB's, but they do offer many different configurations to choose from that can be made to fit.

I'm saving up for my exhaust right now. My setup is gonna be SDJ header, to Borla muffler acting as a presilencer, and a Magnaflo out back. I think a few people have this setup on here, or atleast using a Borla as a presilencer.

what do you guys think about this set up:

RB header-RB presilencer- borla muffler

would that be too loud? would i need something else other than the one RB presilencer?

i have been runnig a rb header, random tech cat, thrust glass pack, and dynomax muffler through 2.5" pipes for many years w/ no problems... i used to have a dynomax silencer in place of the glas pack but it got hit by an animal in the road and split it open... i liked the sound of the dynomax silencer but the glass pack is quieter... don't get me wrong, you ain't gonna sneak it home!!! btw i did try the rb header, random tech cat, and flow master muffler... but damn it was just to loud!!! my neighbors hated me for that... lol

aws140: I don't think that would be too loud. A little louder than the RB setup with an RB muffler (barely louder than stock) but as long as you have the presilencer in there it should keep it within reasonable levels.

I bet it would sound damn good too.

rb pipes are heavy wall pipes just like stock... that is why it isn't as loud.... after market pipes other than rb are thin wall pipes and they are going to be loud no matter what you put in line with them... the rotary exhaust note is going to ring all the way through the thin wall pipes... like i said you will not be sneaking it home at night!!! but hey some people like it like that... i drive my car around here and some poeple look at me like i am crazy, but then other people look envious that there car doesn't sound that good (ie it doesn't sound like a fart can on a honda!)... and i am not going to tell you that i haven't had looks from the cops, but then again i have never been pulled over for it either... that is why i keep a random tech cat and some sort of silencer on it... good luck

i dont have to worry about sneaking it home at night. thats not an issue. i think ive decided on my set up:

RB header-RB presilencer-flow through 12"(?) tube muffler- borla muffler

it will all be 2.5" and should sound good and throaty

Good job, I think borla should be real good. Thats what im going to ge when I get exhaust. There are guys on here that have borla and they will chime in prolly. I read about one borla muffler that its the same metal used on airplanes. You can get stainless steel ones too. They should last real good, i think. I want to do rb header, cat, back to a borla. Maybe add a magnaflow round muffler in there as a precilencer. I don't know yet, something like that. Thats what I would do. For you, pretty much same thing, no cat.

I personally dont like the sound of Borla. My compadre is using dual borla in his rotary 510.

Forget the borla. They are overprice IMO, not worth the money. Dont quote me on this, but I dont think they are even welded at the seams. Go with a magnaflow, they are cheaper but are fully welded together and we all know they withstand the rotary heat. They are also available in almost any size and in-out configuration you would want. Simply the best, and they arent too loud either if you get a good sized one. I would suggest a 5x8 that has an 18" long body. It will fit behind the axle too.

i think thatd quieten it down A LOT more than just one, but i think the RB presilencer will do a better job. its also A LOT more $$ though and theyre kind of hard to find used.
