I must be stupid or something
because I cannot get this damn intake manifold off! I got the top two bolts, and the lower two. It jiggles around a little bit, but it seems like there is another bolt on the back side of it? it is letting out a little coolant too. Sometimes I hate this car.

This car is driving me insane. I finally got the bolt off, and when the manifold came off, so did one of the coolant O rings, the one on the right. Apparently this one is about 1mm too big and it wont go back in. it wont even seat. so i check the clearance on the manifold, BAM! it wont fit, just my luck. the air pump is in the way. So what this means is that i have to take it off, and make a block off plate for it, then get that lawnmower belt. but I cant run the car stockexhaust with no air pump right? so i will need a header too. OUFGYVYVLIFYLTDOYTFDYGF(&@ aaaaah this car aggrevates me, it has sucked all my money away for the past 2 months and I have nothing to show for it. manifold that wont bolt on the car without removing the air pump, attaching a carb that has the wrong jets on it, the throttle linkage is on the wrong side. wait, the throttle linkage is wrong PERIOD.

Dont fret, it will all work out.
You dont need a header, you just need a piece of straight pipe in place of the cats.
I have run cars without any extra belts once the airpump was removed and had no problems, just use some belt dressing and you shouldnt have any slippage.
Also, you dont need any blockoff plates for the airpump. Once your new manifold is on, there is no ACV anyway. Simply pull it off and your done.
You dont want to reuse the old coolant O-rings anyway. Head down to the local mazda dealer, they are all of 2 dollars or something, and they should be in stock ready for you.
As for the carb, often aftermarket carbs have the australian style linkages, so it often takes a bit of modifying to hook them up. Take your time and look at the linkages, Im sure you can contrapt something with a bit of thought.
Dont worry about jetting, get it together and see how it runs. Chances are you will be able to get the car out in the meantime unless they are really out of whack. Then listen to the folk on this forum and you should be able to get yourself the optimal jets.
Just remember, its all fun and games. Youll iron everything out in time.
I have experienced the same frustration, and now have come to expect it. Dont let it bother you, in the end you will have much more pride in your car, and it will have soul. Haha just remember where you are, herein lies the answer to all your problems!!
Good luck mang!

So if I take my air pump off, what do I do about the belt situation?

if you get rid of the air pump you just need to get smaller belts, if your alt will not adjust the slack out. I ended up takeing off the air pump and air cond. on my car and just have a dual pulley setup and got smaller diameter belts to match.

1 belt---- Bad idea. Just save about 40 bucks for a duel alt pulley. Remove the air pump. I have a Racing Beat Header that I can hook you up with. The stock alt belt will fit. With the duel pulley, you just need two. As far as the AC goes, you will need to remove the belt from it first to gain access to the other two. The first belt behind the AC belt, is the one that goes around the crank, water pump, then the air pump. The last belt is the one that goes around the crank, water pump, and alt. Don't sweat it! I can hook you up!
