I have failed!! unable to finish/start project(s)
HI i cant finish my projects! i have two 1st gen rx7's both 83's one is a base model and the other is a gsl. The base model i gutted out and is ready for paint. the gsl is the newest one i got it just 2 months ago and it needs alot of work but i was able to put in my jdm 12at motor into it so i could tune it and all it is lacking to start up is a computer and fuel pump.
so here's whats wrong i am depressed b/c i cant get much done on them, i want to get the base model painted so i can do the gsl se swap, then put the 12at motor in after its tuned in the gsl. but i am getting so sad b/c i have nobody to work on the car with me, my best friend isnt car inclined, and i was newly married when i got the car and its hard getting time to work on it. the other thing is that the cars are not at my house so i have to go to them... last but not least i just found out i am going to be a DAD!!! this is a total shock and unexpected and unplanned supprise. so i need to know what to do i have tons and tons of parts to both cars and i dont know what i should do. i could sell all of them and buy a nice 2nd or 1st gen thats mint. but i feel so bad b/c i had a vision and i have almost all the parts to complete the car just short a paint job, fuel pump, and a computer.
please help me know what i should do or what you would do....

Grab your fav six pack and FORCE yourself to work on them when you have time (wife= allowed LOL)
I know how you feel, my car broke down on me and Its been all me this entire time.. The best way for me to get on a project is to have a beer and a smoke and walk around my garage looking for a small project, and once I find one, I get into the groove and start doing alot of work... this works for me about 95 percent of the time.

You have not failed. When you believe that the cars are more important than your wife and your child on the way, then you may be in the failure category.
If your wife is interested in the cars then get her involved. If not then just set some time aside for your projects. They will get done, just don't rush them and in the end you will appreciate the completion of them more. :-)

I would suggest that you ditch the cars and focus on practicality. I would also suggest that you consider a motorcycle or a scooter for fun and economy to replace your desire for a thrilling/enjoyable ride. They are easier to store and maintain. Get some practical wheels for your family.
Been there, done that.

Congrats! Life happens buddy. My personal recomendation would be to stick to one project. Your car is only as expensive as your expectations. Decide what you want, weigh the pros and cons and sell or part the other one out.
Toys will allways be toys. Like the Doc said, you just have to pace yourself. Because you are getting a new addition to the family, doesn't mean you have to forget about your dreams and start playing WoW. Cars and money go hand in hand. It will just take some time.

Couldn't agree more! My GF now bugs me everytime I'm home to go and work on the 7 with her.
Only thing I would say is if she's not interested, try and get her interested (start small, point out all the bits and explain what they do, go from there...)
Good luck, and just keep at it, its worth it in the end!

Don't worry about the cars. They will wait for you. Just make sure you have a permanent place to keep them safe and visit them when you can and work on them when you can. Life happens to all of us.
Last year I got my 80 SA running for the first time in 4 years (I've owned it since 1983). It was down due to bad rear bearings and working for various startup companies. Anyway, I finally got it all together drove it for about 6 months and the clutch goes out last fall. So over the winter I finally got the clutch a few other things done. I pull it out and try driving it and bam the brake booster is fried. Then we decide to move down to Charlotte. I trailered the car down here in June and still don't have it licensed or running yet, been too busy with moving in/unpacking. I start it every so often and it waits. It will wait until I finally have time and money freed up to get the brake booster and get it licensed and inspected. Its ok, I can wait. So can you.
Good luck on the marriage and the child, they are both a lot harder to do than anything on the car. So focus on them for now and make it right. They desrve that much.

Thanks alot for all the support! I appricate all the help and understanding that you have all shown. I think keeping the car would be the best thing to do at the moment. The main thing holding back progress is the paint job then i can start bolting it together....

Here's an idea. Get Greasy. Tell you wife it will save lots of money on automotive repairs. It will keep you busy and your wife entertained while you anxiously wait the kid. Works on my wife Cathy. Once you got it running as good as Stu's, paint it cherry red.
Stu, what's a tremclad anyway?

Terrified.
If you have the foundation laid for your future, like owning a house, having a place to store the car, and all the necessities, then keep the car. Store it away, and continually work on it as you get the time to. It'll make the car more meaningful this way.
If you don't have foundation for the rest of your life, not owning a house, barely making ends meet, then get rid of the cars. They'll break you quick along with your relationship.
Either way. Good luck and congratulations on being a father.

Just take the car restoration slowly.
Took my dad 25 years to do a full restoration on his corvette, little things like me, and my brother caused some speed bumps. But he did finish it and he did it right.
So if your looking at a couple years delay in your project, don't worry about it, the car isn't going anywhere. Focus on the important things in life first.
Good luck
