I got hit and now im rich!
Well Dec. 23 my car was hit while parked outside my friends house. The lady (of course) said she didnt see it since it was "too low" (the stock height). anyways i got an estimate for $928.47. Im thinking ill use $200 of that to actually fix it and the rest goes into the engine. Any ideas?!? Im thinking ignition. Heres what I have so far. Racing beat intake manifold, holley 450 cfm carb, full monza exhaust. Any suggestions? Im thinking $700 will go a long way.

Since it sounds like you already have the monza exhaust, I would try to sell it on e-bay to some poor shmuck that doesn't know the difference between a quality piece and some piece of ****. Get a RB exhaust and reclaim the lost power from your engine, or if you want even more power, custom make an exhaust using an 18" long 4" round magnaflow muffler as a resonator and an 18" long 5x8 oval muffler as a rear muffler and 2.25" pipes in between. It would be louder than RB, but also have an awsome low tone like nothing else.

yeah sorry if i didnt clarify...I already have the exhaust, carb, and intake. the poor shmuck was me
Ok well Ill go for the RB exhaust, how much louder is that if any, because I would like it to be quiter if possible. Maybe an inline muffler would do the trick. Anyways Supposing I could get $100 on ebay for the monza stuff, would I have some money left over to get any thing else? How about getting the engine steam cleaned? Has anyone done that?

The RB exhaust is supposedly only marginally louder than stock, but can net probably a 25 hp gain over stock. That monza setup you have is probably hurting your engine more than helping it.
As it turns out, I have a monza header on the 88 engine I put in my 82. I'm going to try to make the best out of it by making an uncollected dual exhaust. Hoping it turns out as expected.
I'm not sure if you would have any money left over, but if you do, do the direct fire ignition setup with a 2nd gen coil. Probably one of the best things you can do under $50 to help with overall engine response and fuel economy.

$700 can go a long way for your 7 if you spend it right.
There are used RB Exhaust systems on the forum all the time so you can get one used for half of the new price for about half the price. Check the For Sale Section.
Defiantly go with the direct fire set up using a 2nd Gen coil for direct fire ignition you will see a definite gain in performance, even better use the 2nd Gen coil with the Transistor Trick (search the 1st Gen section & Archieve). The Transitor trick gives even more spark than just using the 2nd gen coil by it self and you can get the coil and the transitor for around $75. Best Bang for you Buck IMO.
Then just search the FAQ and the forum for mod's that others have done and had success with. I could go on but just PM me if you want to know more and I also have a 2nd Gen coil for sale if you interested.
Just be patient and don't spend it all at one time. Have Fun!!!
