i dont understand.. alt. maybe??

There is something wrong with my car and im not sure what.

the first time it happened i was just leaving my house. i turned left and my car suddenly shut off. it didnt die or idle down. it just shut off. everything. i turned the key and it turned right back on. the engone didnt really turn over or anything. it was wierd. i drove to school fine... when i left school for work, my car wouldnt start. it wouldnt turn, the starter wouldn't click.. nothing. it was liek the battery was COMPLETELY dead.

i hooked up some cables and it turned on perfectly. i didnt have to let it sit and charge at all. my dad hooked up a battery charger while i was at work and it seemed to work.

but now my stereo is messed up. it turns on fine and plays, but when i take my foot off the gas pedal and begin to break, my stereo shuts off for about 5 seconds, and then turns back on. it will also turn off every so on when i turn on my turn signals.

this doesnt happen all the time though. its either going to work fine the whole day, or confuse the hell out of me..

what do u guys think is causing this? a bad alternator or maybe a short in the battery?? please help.

time for my fix-all... check your battery terminals. if they are corroded, even with scale corrosion, they may do all the above mentioned crap. get a wire brush and clean the posts and the cinnectors, see if that helps. (yes, i've had to do this a few times on different cars, and yes it always seemed to work)

Yep, what they said. I have had this happen before, and it was usually the ground wire at the battery that was corroded, but it could really be at any point in the system between the battery and ground point/starter.

no. not battery. i made sure to check that.. tonight while i was driving a whurring started to come from the good ol engine bay. im 90% sure it was the alternator. it sounded like really small supercharger.. haha. when i would rev the engine, my light would also get bright. if i had my brights on and turned on the heat, my brights would go dim. so wat do u guys think??

Pull the belt off the alt and check the bearings, spin then wiggle the pulley. It sounds like you also have a loose connection somewhere, is your battery tied down? If so check any aftermarket wiring you've done.
