Ongoing 88 GTU electrical Alt. questions

Hey guys,
I have been having some electrical issues with my 88 GTU...

I was going home last night & noticed my Alt. wasn't charging....After overcharging earlier...

Well, This morning, it barley started, but I was able to just make it to the local Pep Boys auto parts store before she died...I figure, its not charging, needs a new Alt.

So, I pop on the New Alt and it needed a jump to get her started...
Heading to my office, everything looks fine, its reading a postive charge...At least for the first few 5-6 miles...

Then...same thing, it starts losing the battle and I slowly am at a negative charge and barely make it to my office...UGH!
Any idea's?
Thanks much for any help!

Well, no, but its maybe a year old at the most?
Once the car is started, the Alt. should be charging it right?
The Alt gauge showed a neg. charge after the first 10-12 minutes?

Well, if the alt was bad, and expecially overcharging as you said it was...it could kill the battery.. And then putting a new alternator on with the dead battery that no longer holds a charge, can kill an alternator pretty quick ( I had it happen to me.. overcharging killed a brand new Die Hard battery..) My advise would be to test that battery.
