I can't believe this is happening...

Read this first: https://www.rx7club.com/1st-generation-specific-1979-1985-18/aaaaarrrrgghhhh-nooooo-369739/

Then, here's the update.

I called Bob's Towing, and they told me flat out, "if it sits here too much longer , like a couple days or so, it's going to the crusher.... bottom line. Either come get this car, or it's gone."

So I said, "Can I come get all the parts and wheels off of it?"

They said, "Nope... if anybody is going to be strippin' it, it's gonna be US."

I said, "The HELL you are... that's MY car, and ALL of it BETTER be intact, or so help me god, there WILL be hell to pay."

They said, "We'll see about that" *click*

So now I'm thinking to myself... they want almost $900 to get it out of impound, and my paycheck for 2 weeks will be just under 700. I also owe 450 to rent, 100 to Student Loan, 125 to a friend, 50 for the cell, and on top of that, I need gas and insurance for the Slo-Tege.

I hate to say it, but I'm hoping for the best, but planning for the worst. I think it's gone.

My BABY.

They can't crush the car because they do not own it. They are playing games. They first have to apply for an abandoned car title so they can get posession of it. They are just trying to get money out of you. Why have you waited so long to get a lawyer!!!!!!! You would have your car back by now. It's all falling into your hands! Its been like 2 weeks now, and your still sitting there.

I'm just guessing that the reason is that the only thing that sucks more than those ***** that called to have his car towed or the ***** that towed it off are lawyers.

Dude, do you really have it in you to get your car back or what?? Pay them the goddamn 900. If you're 300 bucks short, take it out of a credit car as a cash advance and do what you need to do to get the car back. What the hell are you waiting for? Why didn't you just get your car back the day it was taken over there? You would've had you car back and cash to top it off, now you've sunken deeper in the quicksand and can't find a rope to pull yourself out...or rather, pull your car out...good luck dude. I dunno about you, but i'd live with regret for the rest of my life if I let my car go in the hands of some gay-*** tow truckers. Pay them and get your car back. Do it or else...

this story has just gotten to far to belive. either it a big hoax on all of us, or there is a lot of info he has not shared. hmmm ? why has he not got a lawer by now? it can not be cost. I do not like lawyers , but if his story is true he has an easy win and no rent to worry about.

i agree with this...

I'll ask my law professor about this the next time we have class. (tuesday next week) But I wouldn't be surprised if this is a hoax. also, why don't you give us the name/number of the tow yard, maybe another member can "be interested in the rx-7 they saw in the lot"... just a thought.

Dude, this is collection technique 101. They are playing hardball... and it works 95% of the time because people have generally screwed up. Your situation is different.

Didn't you have verbal permission from your landlord to leave the car there? The car never should have been towed in the first place. It's time to send a registered letter to the towing company NAD the landlard to say that their errors are responsible for the impound situation, and that unless they arrange for the car's return immediately, that you will file small claims charges against them both. Let me tell ya, and judge will rule in your favor, because they don't like these slimeball practices from the lowball towing companies.

This is total bullshit, and it's pissing me off (and it's not even my car). You are getting played like a violin. If you need help with the letter, let us know.

Verbal permission doesn't mean ****, unless it's on paper it means NOTHING. Don't you watch judge judy or mills lane? Haha thats the moral of the story everytime.

I think a few people should call this asswhipe and give them a piece of their mind

Hell if we got everyone from this club to bombard them with calls every 5 minutes, I think we might be able to break them! Just have random people calling saying "the rx7 club knows about you!!"

Ok... for those of you in this mystery dream world where money is no object... you OBVIOUSLY don't understand what it's like to be BROKE.

The reason I haven't gotten the car out? MONEY.

The reason I haven't gotten a lawyer? MONEY.

The reason I am working 80+ hours a week, JUST to barely scrape by for bills? MONEY.

Regardless, I have to find a way to get my car back.... and it's going to be expensive..... I know this. I'm just infuriated that I have to go through all of this right now in the first place.

Hey man, I feel you. I know what its like to have NO money, TRUST ME. Thats why Im not bitching at you to go get a lawyer or whatever. I know you are stuck between a rock and a hard place, as I still am too in my life, but not with something like this thankfully.

Unfortunatly it seems there is no solution to this problem other than money, and getting it is always easier said than done. Is there anyone you can borrow/trade/barder money from? Paycheck advance? Is there any way you could talk to the yard and see if they will barder with you? Maybe you do some work for them and they give you the car back? I know its not ethical or whatever, but you gotta do what you gotta do at times. They obviously have the upper hand, so it may be time to give in to the fact theyre controlling it, and see if you can get them to relent?

Where I come from, it's not the owner of the car that HAS to pay for the towing/storage it's the owner of the property it was towed from. You can just walk in and TAKE back your property. Of course, the towing company doesn't advertise this since they now have to bill the property owner for the money who in turn bills you.

I think that you should at the very least call the cops and tell them what happened and check into what you can do. You may need some assistance from them to retrieve the car later anyways if you're allowed to just walk in and get it...

Good luck.

the lawyer could take his money from the tow yard or the apt complex. most likly he would take it from the insurance company the apt complex has not you. if you would have paid an attorny when this happend, you would have your car back now and it would have been cheeper than were you are at now. have you even talked to an lawer? I know for a fact there are many looking for work in jax. threr are many that would be free to talk to. having no money is why most go to lawyers.

Alright, Lets try this!!

Your Baby has been a long time investment right, Money, Labour all that stuff!

So Instead of just giving up,
why not Listsome parts for sale on the forum!!!! if you get interested buyers and can cover the cost of retrieving the car.
You can then look into a PAY DAY Loan!!!! My friend runs one of those Joints and if you have a Job they'll give you cash!!!!!

Good Luck

I have to GET the car to part it out.

Pay day loans will end up costing me twice (if not more than that) what I'm getting.... And a friend of mine has a brother who's a lawyer... I gotta talk to him, see what he says.

But for the time being... I'm going to do what I can... even if it means some slightly illegal things. I don't care at this point. I just want my car back... in one piece.

Again, the yard and the apt don't want ot get involved with court and lawyers. If you bring them to court, it costs them time and money. The sooner at least you get a formal process in pace --- even a resistered letter stating that they have 5 business days to release your car without fees, else you file in small claims coourt -- the quicker they will back down.

These turds are all about the money, not right or wrong. Once they see a hassle coming they will back down.

here, it's always towed at owners expense. I wasn't trying to chime in to be a smartass, but you might as well say bye to the car then. The bill is just going to get higher everyday and then your paycheck would never amount up to what is owed. I would still go the route with the attorney. At least you can make payments to them when this is all said and done.

80 hours a week and you're paycheck will only be just under 700 bucks? Just give them the Protege and get the 7 back...part out the 7 and buy a beater.

This sounds kind of stupid, but might work...

Any of us who HAVE money...this is what we do.

Since the car is worth around 900 so far...about nine of us can pay $100 each, or, eighteen of us can pay $50 dollars. All this money will be sent to you. You will then get the cash, whatever you have and pay to get the car back. Once the car is back in your hands, you can then pay back the members who helped you out to get the car in the first palce. Eh....EH!?*nudge nudge*

Ah well..just an idea. If YOUR money can't get it out, ours can. And if everyone agrees, we can pay to get your car out. *Shrug* Just a thought....

when you finaly talk to a lawyer: 1) there is a set rate and a total rate that any place can charge that has forcefull pos of a car. find out what that is. there are rules to this that applie to the value of the car also 2) when you started the thread I thought the car was in IL. since you are in fl now and the car is also. there are laws that protect you here from this kind of auto rape. find out what they are. Jax is an area of fl that offen trys to get away with good old boy law beware of this. it offten is quoted as law but is not. 3) fl law allows for verbale agreements to be enforced in civil court as contracts you will need a witness and have acted on the agreement. ie:: aranged delivery of new engine in time frame made, had engine rebuilt at prof shop and set up delivery or install. kept active insurance on car. the plate/reg may hurt you but remember you can not drive a car with out a engine. any paper proof that you acted on the apt complexs permission ( you need to use agreement insteed of permission) this implies you understood it as a contract. 4) fl is a tennet state it protects the renter not the landlord. there are laws and rights that cover you from harm by the land lord that apply to personal proprty. 9 out of 10 times the little gut sueing the pro or corp will win in court no matter how bad the case they have.

my question is why have you not found a lawyer yet????? and please do not say I am broke/ I have no money. I have been sued before an can tell you they had no case or money but had a lawyer. whats the truth why do you not have a lawyer???? it is a apt complex right? they have insurance the lawyer will get his money. judges hate those croked impound yards also. do not wait an longer it may have already been too long.

Just show up at the yard with a friend, his car and a tow rope. Tell them you're picking up your car and that no, you're not paying the bill.

He won't let it go at this point so get his full name, the time and date you were there. Write the info down in front of him and ask him to double check the spelling on his name (). If he backs down at this point, you'll be facing the landlord in court for the bill. But it'll be THEM that have to sue YOU at their cost.

If you leave without the car, contact a lawyer. The initial phone consultation is free.

It sounds to me like you're 16. Grow up, and go claim what's yours for Pete's sakes!

Or wait for it to come up for auction and bid $50 bucks.
