Aaaaarrrrgghhhh!!!! Nooooo!!!!!!
I can't believe this. I just worked a 17.4 hour day, and come home to find that my beloved RX-7, the Humpty Dumpty...
IS GONE.
So I call 911, IMMEDIATELY, and they tell me, "Well, it looks like your apt. complex had it towed"
I said, "W H A T?"
911 operator says, "they reserve that right to tow any vehicle for any reason. They put a notice on the form here that says the car hasn't moved in 3 weeks. Is this true?"
I said, "Yes, but they KNEW that the motor for it was being built, and would be in it in a couple weeks... like right before christmas."
911 operator said, "Well, you can call Bob's Towing, out on the Westside.... they'll tell you when you can come get the car, and how much it is."
I said, "THE CAR DOESN'T RUN. How am I gonna get it back to the house?"
She said, "That's for you to figure out. All I can do is tell you where it is."
(FYI, Bob's Towing is KNOWN for stripping cars... as sort of a semi-legal chop shop.)
I called Bob's Towing, and here's the response I got.
Me: "Can you tell me where my car is? It's a 1985 Mazda RX-7"
BT: "1985... ummm are you sure? The plate says it's registered to a 79"
Me: "Yeah, the registration system in IL is SLOW... it's been transferred over to an 85"
BT: "What color?"
Me: "Light blue, with a silver passenger's front fender"
BT: "Any discernable markings on it, or an easier way for me to find it?"
Me: "It's the one with the wheels that stick out about an inch and a half on all four corners, mint interior, lots of tools in the back of it, rear windshield with wiper,.... I can keep going"
BT: "Does it have a sunroof?"
Me: "No."
BT: "Well, I'll keep an eye out for it, and I'll try to give you a call when I see it."
Me: "No... you will find my car NOW, and you will tell me how much it's going to cost to get it out of there. PERIOD."
BT: "Hang on sir, I'll check for it."
Me: "Yeah, I'll hold"
BT: "We've got it here, but you may want to get here first thing in the morning... we're not responsible for belongings left inside vehicles, nor any damages"
Me: "Correction... you ARE responsible for it, because if every single nut and bolt isn't intact, with the part it's attached to, and the car isn't the EXACT SAME when I get it as the way you guys got it, I will own that towing company, mark my words. I will get my car back, and it WILL be intact."
BT: "mm hmm, sir. We'll take care of all of the paperwork tomorrow." *click*
So help me god, if my baby is harmed in the slightest, throats will be slashed, and y'all may never see me again, as a 25-to-life sentence may be in my future.
IS GONE.

Thats so ******* lame. Let me tell you, the feeling you get when you walk up to your car to look at it after some fuckwad stripped it is pure hell. If there hadnt been a cop there when I did it, I probably wouldve put someone in the hospital - literally.
I sure as hell hope that your car is ok, I wouldnt wish something like this upon anyone. If they did do anything to it, you need to pursue it as much as possible before it gets too late. My car was stolen over a year ago and the cops NEVER did anything about it, even when they took the car out of the guys yard, they still didnt do ****. I might as well just go steal his ******* car, take what I want, and wait for the cops to come get it so I dont have to dispose of it.

God help the person who would tow my vehicle for not moving for 3 weeks, much less the guy at the towing company stripping it, damaging it, or responsible for theft of anything in it. I couldn't even imagine your position, I would flip

what happened to him? he has not responded back yet. I hope he is sueing the apt complex at least. in IL they have a notify owner requirement prior to towing. sounds like it was unlawfull towing. no matter how the towing company has things marked they are legaly responceable for the car and the belongings. so if any damage or missing items sue them too. you can also sue personaly the people that work at the apt complex that had it towed, thats most likly the easiest. overnite the tools are most likly the first to go.

We have a towing company that is like that here next to our shop.
We have helped a few people "re-aquire" their vehicles in the past because we hate the way he chops perfectly good cars. They literally flip the cars over onto their roofs to do simple things like change transmission gaskets.
Hope you got everything back in one piece.

Maybe he went vigilante on us, and is now sitting in jail? Why no updates? I hope he got all of them before the cops took him down at least! Definitely time to "thin the herd"! LOL. Hopefully all is well.

250 bucks to get it out of the towyard, plus 75 bucks for each additional day it sits there (9 days), plus 125 bucks to get it towed BACK here.
I hate to say it.... but I think she's gone. and my $3000 Centerlines are gone with it. That alone makes me borderline crying.... and I am not an emotional person. Moody, but not emotional.
To think... all those nights of working on the car at 3am, in the middle of the projects of New Orleans... pissing off all of the neighbors...
...completely stripping the battered and bruised Widebody (R.I.P. Double J), to get the salvageable parts from her, to put onto the Humpty Dumpty...
... going through every fiery loop that the DMV asked for, just so I could get it on the road...
... going through FIVE, count them, 5, motors, in a matter of a couple months, because they were all either dead or dying, and I performed the coup de gras to the ones that were on their last bit of life with a drift day....
... flying from Jacksonville, FL to New Orleans, LA, just to TOW the car back here....
... stripping the paint from the car in order to prep it for a fresh coat of `93 Montego Blue paint (the primer, basecoat, and "DiamondHard" clearcoat were all inside the car)...
... getting a verbal ok from the apt complex that it could sit here, as long as it had tags on it. They didn't even have to be current tags.... just tags for that vehicle. They expired Oct. 31, 2004.
... realizing that maybe it was all not worth it?
I dunno. I honestly feel like 73.4% of my heart and soul are GONE now. That car was the ONE thing I had. I don't have a house, a boat, furniture, hell, hardly anything. But I could always count on seeing my baby in her spot every day. I would talk to her every day. "Soon, baby... you'll have a new motor, and you'll be stronger, and better than when you were new. Just a little while longer." EVERY DAY.
People at work took up a collection for me to get a motor, so that I would stop talking about it, and that ceased to exist after $34.
I dunno y'all. My mind, body, and soul are all shattered right now. I am REALLY not sure what's going to happen. Hell, I don't even know which way is up. I'm going to the Jacksonville RX-7 meet today, hopefully that will give me some motivation.... but for right now... it's not there.

****. If I were down there, I'd help you get it back... I'd like to think the front end of my truck will take out a chain link fence pretty well.
Probably shoulda gotten a written OK from the apt complex, but I'd still take the car back and sue for damages...
