How to stop noise from the air pump...
I did a search and do not think that there has been anything to cover how to stop the noise from the air pump for the people who leave the air pump on (but don't use it). Yes, many of you will simply post "rip it off" but I choose not to. The reason for this is because this rex is my daily rex and will retain A/C (the air pump will balance the belts).
The air pump is fairly noisy and gives the engine a bad sound--which is unacceptable! I've heard of people gutting the pump's internals, but it ends up destryoing the bearings because the pump isn't balanced. Is there some kind of write-up on how to "correctly" remove the internals?
OR--How about just ditching the pump and getting an idling pulley (if that's what it's called). Any write-ups on how to make an idler, or where to buy one? (Maybe I'll be the first to custom fab one )
Sorry if I sound angry or anything... Kind of in a bad mood
Much appreciated,
FS

stick one of those spinning whistle toys on it, and it will sound like a turbo spooling up...of course it'll probably spin too fast and melt, but hey..
anyways yeah i have the same issue, i think making a 'muffler' for it might work though..so much effort just to retain a useless part, but I need to pass smog every year, so i'll be swapping the stock exhaust in every time

Maybe you've got a bad bearing already?

Maybe your engine isn't stock and is louder than the air pumb, but once I blew the air pump hose off when I back fired or something, and I could hear a pulsating air noise, and it was pretty loud. Once I reconnected the hose the noise was unnoticeable. I would either do the long rubber hose route, or get the duel alt pulley from somewhere like racing beat.

Anyway, I have a spare pump that i'll be working on in a few days. I'll try to gut and balance it as best I can, or I'll custom make my own idler.
