How to smoke taillights???

I was wondering if anybody could tell me how to smoke out tail light and turn signals. The reason being is that I am getting a SA to replace my FB and the car is black I am going to repaint it to make it nice and glosy and I think smoked tail lights would look good

Thanks in advance

Just get some tail light paint and spray it on the inside of the lenses. I've used a product called Night Shades and it works great.

Use night Shades, but you spray it on the outside not the inside. I did 4 coats and then 4 of clear.

I used night shades too. looks great, but use it on the INSIDE! If you use it on the outside it'll cover up the square reflector in the middle of the lens, and it looks cheapo... polish up the outside with some rubbing compound and polish, and use the EVH Night Shades on the inside. It looks like it could be stock, and its totally badass.

No, you definately use it on the outside, and just tape over the red reflectors.

See what I did?

Per VHT, your supposed to use it on the outside and protect it with clear.

I didn't use a clearcoat on mine. The can said I didn't have to, and they look badass even after all of the elements and hailstorms, etc.

Just some because some of you did the oustside doesn't mean it can't be done the other way. I know what looks better. It's just more work taking the lense off.

Did mine with 3 light coats on the outside, no clear, masked off the reflector. Car has sat outside for over a year now, still looks good.

But because of the physics of the product, even VHT says you shouldn't do so.

Light that's going in is supposed to be cancelled out, that's why you place it on the outside. Placing it on the inside makes the light going out cancelled out.

Defintely want to use it on the outside. If you're not real confident in doung them yourself, I can do them for you however you want. Just PM if you like.

I have pics of mine but I have my lights fabricated to later spec. And my camera sucks. I also have a pic of a fellow forum member's FB with smoked lights at night.

The regular lights don't show up well on sunny days, but that doesn't matter as you don't need them on sunny days. Cloudy days they show up fine and brake lights come right through no problem, even in total sunshine
